Reference needed

[edit]

User:Atlantic306 -- When someone adds accurate yet unreferenced material to an article, I find the better practice is to add a citation needed tag[citation needed] instead of removing the content. CUA 27 (talk) 21:17, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Atlantic306 -- Looking at WP:BURDEN, I take it you wanted me to consider the following excerpt?:

"In some cases, editors may object if you remove material without giving them time to provide references; consider adding a citation needed tag as an interim step ... If you think the material is verifiable, you are encouraged to provide an inline citation yourself before considering whether to remove or tag it."

And you wanted me to click on the linked text, which leads to WP:PRESERVE?:

"Instead of removing content from an article, consider: ...

That's what you wanted me to focus on, right? CUA 27 (talk) 02:36, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Atlantic306 -- My original note to you was simply to ask for an aspect of courtesy -- i.e., the next time I or someone else makes a contribution that you view as imperfect, consider looking for a way to improve upon the contribution, or to help the editor improve their own contribution. Removing accurate content is not a productive way to collaborate in the shared goal of building an encyclopedia. CUA 27 (talk) 03:13, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    • Ive got 6000 articles on my watchlist so time is limited for big edits, you are responsible for your own edits and you need to prove the information added is accurate by adding a reference. I was helping you by requesting a reference and the content is not really deleted, it is easily accessible from the page history. See WP:BLP, as adding unreferenced content to a bio of a living person is a serious matter and if it persists can result in a block, whereas references for other types of articles are less strict and citation needed tags are suitable for those articles or just a tag at the top and most list articles dont need refs at all as they are referenced in the individual articles, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 14:35, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
