Archived?

I noticed that the website still exists at http://modrs2.info/. Is this an archived version? I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. I don't know if there is new content on it or not. Does anyone know? Chrisbrl88 (talk) 05:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

I think it's a static mirror (the sort you get with a 'wget -m'); notice that the forum links are broken. --Gwern (contribs) 19:19 1 February 2010 (GMT)

Has anyone here actually been to totse.com? Its nothing more than forum boards full of teenagers spouting on about "the man" and lieing about their many and varied sexual and crime related activitys.

Remove the name totse and its nothing more than an old style board full of teens who watch the matrix and listen to a lot of rage against the machine.

Also is it really a good idea to promote a site that has a vast collection of rape and kiddy porn stories?

You my friend, have most likely only glanced upon the kidiots that make up Spurious generalities and Bad Ideas. There are dozens of more sub forums on totse that aren't "ZOMG ANARKY!" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.148.250.75 (talk) 05:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
What on earth have you got against kiddy porn? Someguy303 04:05, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I have been there. I am a member. And I admit, there is a lot of, how should I say it, "fluff" on the site from people making stuff up, or just plain being stupid. It didn't used to be the way it is, but now its kinda crazy. If you look deep enough, past the crazy teenagers, the egomaniacs, and the idiots, you may find the best thing about &T- the freedom of speech. Try reading some of the psychological writings and files. Some of these people are genius in there own right. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.216.131.148 (talk) 17:41, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Modifications

I took the liberty of reformatting the page and labeling the items that are most disputed, however some sections also simply need to be expanded (i.e. history, what is, etc.) ThorsHammer 22:34, 30 April 2005 (CST)

This page should either get content from Totse or be deleted. Totse already has much more information. - AyAn4m1

I deleted the actual link to TOTSE, we don't need a bunch of wikitards messing up the forums. 68.64.50.138 06:01, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Ridiculous. An entire fairly lengthy article on a web site, and you don't think we should link to that web site? Needless to say, I've reverted that. --maru (talk) contribs 04:14, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Homosexuality

I spoke to jeff hunter earlier this week in indianapolis, and he told me that the things about totse being started for homosexuals is true, thus I mentioned it on the page.

It's nice that you did that, but it's not verifiable, so out it goes. --maru (talk) contribs 03:25, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
This sounds very hard to believe. --PEAR 03:48, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

FTW

FTW(for the win) should be added in totse slang.

FTW is used elsewhere. There should be a seperate article on FTW. Also, please sign your comments. --PEAR 03:48, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

"Meetups" section remved

I removed the section on meetups. The unreferenced tag had been on there a while and no references seem to be forthcoming, even while more meetups were being added to the "list". — Saxifrage 21:44, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Shutdown

Does anyone have anymore information on the recent shutdown? some mod or admin word would be nice - DonMuttoni 20:53, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

A user named Acidmelt has been telling other members that the site is being updated. Sounds reasonable. I have been a member of totse for a few months.--wjs23 00:03, 30 August 2006 (EST

   lets hope for the best

Yeah. It's being updated.

Acidmelt is not a user, he's an administratior. Call him "Jesus", for short. RedWasp 21:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

I think we'll need a admin to camp out on this page for a while, or at least lock it. Bored totse users are going to be vandalizing it until their website gets back up :).--Mofomojo 19:43, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

I've requested semi-protection. — Saxifrage 20:41, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

A user named greyboy (who was banned from Totse) just screwed up the page (10/02/2006) and I took the liberty of fixing it. I think it needs to be locked, permanently. --wjs23 15:25 2 October 2003 (Eastern Time)

Whats with that?

Whats with the "Jeff Hunter, founder of Totse.com, is currently under custody of DHS (Department of Homeland Security). Totse.com's server was seized as forensic evidence. Hunter faces 25 to life in charges of Terrorism."

I have deleted this part, it is not verifiable.

It was a joke. Totse users used Wiki as their temporary forum. It stems from the facts that Totse contains many controversial text files, thus the DHS would want to shut the site down. --wjs23 00:07, 30 August 2006 (EST)

Well, it's a good thing that Totse is protected under free speech, as long they have that disclaimer that they're not actually condoning anything explained in their text files (i.e. they're for "educational" purposes only).--Ubern00b 06:02, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

and they did a disclaimer on EVERY SINGLE PAGE...god i miss that site173.48.62.136 (talk) 04:57, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Totse Slang

I removed the Totse Slang section as it was a waste of time, was written by an idiot, and half of the slang contained within was standard internet slang. Please don't put it back up, it contributed nothing to the article.Rykoshet, 8:44 EST, 9th of September, 2006.

Not all of the slang from &totse is present elsewhere on the internet; a fair amount of it originated there, for example, "murder/suicide" or "molotov everything" are distinctly "totseisms" which--if not only by totse members--at least originated at totse. Fark.com and a lot of other websites have long lists of cliché text and Farkisms etc. so I don't believe simply removing it without a consensus is justified.

I agree. While some of them (fap, etc.) are commonplace on many websites, the few that are unique to or created by Totse should remain in the article. Other pages (IE 4chan) have meme sections, so why not this one? Db26 20:46, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

--- Sure, but the last page was a mess. If you could, please write a nice list, doesn't have to be many, and post that. Thanks, Ryko.

Unlikely to happen. Last time a list was tried in the article, totse members kept adding their own stuff that they'd made up. It was impossible to keep in good shape and was removed. — Saxifrage 15:34, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Why was my paragraph on totse fads deleted. WHAT DID I DO WRONG?

It wasn't verifiable or notable. You didn't do anything wrong, it's just that the information is inherently unencyclopedic. Some things will just never see the light of day at Wikipedia. — Saxifrage 15:34, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

hmm fair enough but fads take up a big chunk of totse topics....notable? try and find one forum from the past few weeks without a few people mentioning "moving with their aunt and uncle in bel air". should i randomly pick out a few forums and show you the content?141.168.46.13 12:01, 27 October 2006 (UTC)sammy

No, thank you. We have rules against including material written by editors doing direct-observation research. The only way for these fads to be notable is for them to get written up by a reliable media source which is independent of Totse or Wikipedia (such as Reuters or Wired Magazine), so that we can quote them. I realise this is unlikely to happen, but that's the bar that's been set for including things in Wikipedia and there's no reason to make a special exception for Totse. — Saxifrage 17:14, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

MR HAI Phenomenon

I think we should mention something about the MR HAI phemomenon that has struck TOTSE. He is a significant part of TOTSE at this point and has accrued substantial popularity as well as a cult-following to a certain degree. All he has to do is post a simple HAI (with a laughing-smiley face icon) in a thread and suddenly hundreds of users start religiously quoting him, inspired by his simple, yet effective teachings of HAISM. If this is not at least included as a TOTSE-ism or original TOTSE meme then I simply don't know what to say; MR HAI in fact represents much more than just this... he is a prophet of simplicity, a harbinger of joy, and a herald of many new great things that God has yet to bestow upon the great people of &TOTSE.

MR HAI bless America! ~AbsoluteCaliber 08:35, 04 October 2006 (UTC)

Has this phenomenon and person been covered in at least two independent, reliable publications? No? Then no, it will not be in the article. (Note that the majority of the article right now is tagged as needing citation. Adding more unreferenceable cruft is the opposite of what needs doing.) — Saxifrage 15:11, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
How dare you disrespect MR HAI by saying such nonsense and LIES. And on his birthday too. The teachings of HAISM are as well documented as those of christianity that you so vehemently believe in and the fact that you don't know MR HAI when you see him, tells me one thing: you are an idiot. AN IDIOT. You can't stop HR HAI. He's all knowing and all powerful. You've won this time saxifrage. But you haven't heard the last of MR HAI... 59.167.108.59 21:46, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

dude he's right. theres not one totsean who doesnt know the antics of mr hai. now theres people copying his name, and randomly adding HAI to posts. it definitely deserves a mention, but fine then. ITS BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU WE MISS OUT ON PRICELESS NUGGETS OF INFORMATION ON WIKIPEDIA. --141.168.46.13 07:33, 20 October 2006 (UTC)sex panther

If you have a reliable reference that discusses this phenomenon you are welcome to add it to the article. Otherwise it's just so much unverifiable fancruft that doesn't belong here. We're trying to write an encyclopedia, not a fansite. Try Geocities for the latter. — Saxifrage 19:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, Lord forbid we miss out on such vital and priceless information... --Gwern (contribs) 19:22, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
O! Do i detect SARCASM? HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT MR HAI. On a more serious note, can you get banned from DISCUSSION pages
Yes. — Saxifrage 15:32, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

As a nice demonstration as to why every little thing on totse is not refered to here, I will point out the "mr hai phenomenon". This was something that lasted a few months at most on a decade old forum. It really had no effect and has ended as fast as it started. This is why every random little thing does not need to be here, even if it means we miss out on "priceless nuggets of information". Pissedpat 02:32, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Poster

The link to the Australian Anti-terrorism poster that was recently removed wasn't completely illegible. I presume that the original contributer intended the reader to click from the links on the bottom of the page instead of linking straight to the PDF files.

If you choose to view the PDF with the largest size and zoom in, you can easily make out the TOTSE.com logo (found above the "of" to the right), although not much else. I'm sure there is a much better picture of it out there somewhere, but since it links to the official site, I think that it's a great source. - 123.100.91.213 07:20, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

We can link directly to PDFs, that's no problem. On looking at the image, though, I'd change the wording from "featured" to "appears" because it's really not prominently displayed. (For others reading this: the logo appears in a picture of someone sitting at a computer. The logo is in the top-left corner of the computer screen. So, it's picture-in-picture, hardly "featured".) — Saxifrage 17:44, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree. I've added the poster back and managed to found an another source for it. This time quite readable. You can now make out the article's title; "How to Make a Bomb from a Battery." It isn't a news site however, so if it doesn't belong here, please remove it. - 123.100.91.213 00:20, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Source

Due to a recent increase in the number of trolls, the forum administrators have instituted a policy of manually approving all new registrations.[citation needed]

This source could easily be verifiable. The information is found after this page, however due to the POSTDATA, to my knowledge, it cannot be linked to. Anybody know how to get around this? - 123.100.91.213 07:34, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

That wouldn't work anyway because it's original research. We'd need a source that actually says that they have a new policy of manual approvals that we can quote. — Saxifrage 17:41, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
I see. This won't be easy to cite since I don't think there wasn't a single announcement of this, and even if there was, TOTSE doesn't archive threads unless specially chosen by a mod which is quite rare. - 123.100.91.213 00:27, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
I know, and that's just one of the reasons this article is so bare. I know there's lots to say about Totse, bu there's very little of it in a form that Wikipedia can use. — Saxifrage 02:10, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
So can we delete this statement? It's untrue, and unverifiable. absolutecaliber
I don't know about untrue, but it does appear to be unverifiable. I'll remove it. — Saxifrage 23:22, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

bel-air

having read the MR HAI thing below, i guess the answer to this would be more or less the same, but what about Bel-Air? Is that a TOTSE thing, or pretty wide-spread? also, just my $0.02, but a history of the forums would be great

Yeah, it's used elsewhere. Being undocumented though, there's nothing we have to go on for writing about it anyway. — Saxifrage 20:45, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Petition For a New Section in the Article

I would like to see a section listing the current boards and mods that go with them, and the admins. I also wouldn't mind a section for &T slang and a history of &T fads. I would be more than happy to provide the full information for any of them. The Enigma Of &T 00:32, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Been there, done that, and it got nuked. That kind of thing is impossible to maintain and is a magnet for vandalism. It's also more like site profile information, not encyclopedia article information. — Saxifrage 23:44, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Why should it be reworded? BigFishy (the snitch) didn't participate in the prank calls, there was nothing for him to be guilty over. He just didn't like what was going on and emailed Bill.
--Lopnore64 21:42, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Still, I think 'appalled' is an overstatement. He didn't want totse shut down nor did he really care about the wellbeing of will.Crash2108 11:46, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

By the way guys, the liveprayer archive video is down that's cited as the episode where Keller threatens totse.

Lingo of Totse

Totse Lingo and Definitions: Fap- To masturbate; Bel-Air- To start a story, ending it with the Bel-Air Theme; pen0r- Slang for penis; Pull a Jeff- Not post frequently; Huff Raid- term literally telling someone to inhale raid; Murder/Suicide- easy awnser for most Tootsean's problems; Tootsean- someone who frequents totse; kidiot- someone who posts a "stupid" question and appears to be young; Hawt- slang for hot; Noob or n00b- someone with low post count; pull a deadendgirl- to gain excessive weight; Mod toy- username used for spam, ususlly by a mod; Spammer- someone who uses code to stretch a page or otherwise disrupts the forums; troll- someone who posts useless information for attention; WTF- stands for What The F*ck; STFU/GTFO- stands for Shut The F*ck Up/Get The F*ck Out, also a common response to noobs or trolls; SWIM- Name used in place of your own for legal anonamity(Spelling? was supposed to be like ananymous); Haxxored or Haxx0red- to hack; ATTN:- Used to call out a member on the forum; goatse- gross scat porn used to spam.

I know some of these are used widely, but some pertain only to Totse. I also realize that you worry about vandalism for something like this, but for one, I doubt the page is gettign unlocked, and two, on this, the guys probably wouldnt, because it's something that's been talked about on the forums from time to time. I diddn't post sources for the obvious reason that threads move and close regularily. It'd be great if you would put this on the page, as I have put some time into it and will probably add more, and the guys at &T would really enjoy seeing it. semi protection of article

I have now sprotected the article for a second time, following complaints that ip editors were spamming links to "successor" sites. I have gone for a second short period because I am unfamiliar with this area and I do not want to limit legitimate ip editing, so I asked the protection applicant if anyone knew if there is likely to be an "official" declaration of a successor. If not, then there is a question of whether sprotection should be allowed to lapse or for it to be for a longer or indefinite period. If a few editors can come up with a way forward for the next few weeks or months I would be happy to adjust the sprotection accordingly (let me know on my talkpage, as I do not habitually watchlist pages I protect.) Cheers. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:57, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

I have indefinitely sprotected the article, since there is not enough discussion below and too much edit warring (with incivil edit commentaries) in the article space. When there is an agreed consensus which all parties will keep to, I - or another sysop - will then lift the protection. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:19, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Successor sites

I think bbs.zoklet.net and totse2.net should be listed as successor sites. This way the community stays alive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.183.32.42 (talk) 06:03, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia isn't really interested in keeping the community alive one way or the other. There are three different sites that keep getting posted to this page as succesor sites, but none of them are inherently notable are official. As per LHvU's comments above, let's decide what's notable about the next site and prove that here before we post in for free advertising on the wiki. Dayewalker (talk) 03:52, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Jeff Hunter posted on the main page that zoklet and #totse will stay up, therefor basicly telling people to carry on there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.23.238.149 (talk) 16:02, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Successor Sites (Zoklet.net)

I believe it's safe to say that Zoklet is the true successor to Totse due to the fact they've started the Totsepedia Wiki Project. They have the original text files archives and the bulk of the original community. --155.158.50.177 (talk) 02:34, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

That's one of at least three sites that have been added as successor sites. Do you have any reliable secondary sources that discuss the successor site to establish Notability? The original site was proven notable, but the other sites are not neccesarily so. Dayewalker (talk) 05:33, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Jeff's (site owner of totse.com) TFFN letter on the front page of totse.com mentions bbs.zoklet.net as the successor forum. Straight from the horses mouth. 128.205.103.43 (talk)
The front page does mention that site, but doesn't specifically say it's the succesor site. There are more than a dozen sites listed on the page, in fact. As I asked above, are there any reliable secondary sources to establish Notability? Dayewalker (talk) 04:10, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Zoklet IS Totse's successor site. It is the only discussion forum listed on the TTFN message on Totse (It's in bold too). Even if you want to argue that it isn't officially the successor site, there is no denying that Zoklet is by far the largest and most used "Successor" website, with most others being abandoned or deleted already.

It is also the only "Successor" website to be run by an administrator of Totse. There is no denying Zoklet is Totse's main successor, and it must be listed here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by KerberosGX (talkcontribs) 19:50, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
