Unscintillating,

I have deleted the second entry in “further reading” because it was unrelated to TIGHAR. It only seemed to reflect Clinton’s opinion of Earhart.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.74.163.157 (talkcontribs) 2013-06-10T13:44:41

Ask yourself, "Why did Clinton give the speech?".  The answer is that without TIGHAR, the speech would not exist.  The more complete point is that there is a section yet to be written in this article about the event as a whole.  I have discussed this previously at Talk:Amelia EarhartUnscintillating (talk) 22:33, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ask yourself "What does Clinton’s opinion of Earhart have to do with aviation archaeology?” The answer is DIDDLY SQUAT! The more complete point is that the purpose of the further reading section is to give the reader additional sources of information about TIGHAR, and not to subject them to a politician’s gum-flapping.

Clinton’s endorsement of “Niku VII” is really only a footnote in TIGHAR’s history anyway, so there’s no need to belabor the point.

Also, you know perfectly well that Earhart’s talk page is for Earhart, and TIGHAR’s talk page is for TIGHAR. So we’ll have none of this “I have discussed this previously at Talk:Amelia Earhar” crap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.74.163.157 (talk) 02:52, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have corrected the article to indicate that TIGHAR has been on 10 expeditions to Nikumaroro. Niku III, IIII, and V actually consisted of two expeditions each. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.74.163.157 (talk) 02:59, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion

[edit]

Keep. I've added multiple sources to the article: Washington Post, CBS News, Newsweek, New York Times, ABC News. They've been around since 1985 and have worked with the State Department in searching for Amelia. sikander (talk) 19:23, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not convinced that coverage of their mere existence makes them notable, but as an IP editor I can't got to AfD, so I guess that's that. 64.105.98.115 (talk) 19:55, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"About TIGHAR" in the Introduction

[edit]

The Introduction previously had two references to TIGHAR's About page, both the same, and now broken. The current About page no longer supports the statement that TIGHAR was founded in 1985, so I have removed that link. The (previously) second link might be expected to make some reference to "TIGHAR's Federal Tax Exemption Form 990 for Non Profits", which it does not, but it does say that TIGHAR is "dedicated to promoting responsible aviation archaeology and historic preservation", so I have updated that link. (As a mere IP editor I feel I have to justify this non-trivial alteration to the article.)

... To make things worse, the site, as it says itself, is "under construction", and the current live URL "tighar.org/sample-page/", may well change to something more sensible, such as "tighar.org/About.html" *which is what it was originally*! So why, the critic might ask, did you change it at all? Well once I started I had to go all the way, and I've only just realised the last bit. At least currently it is correct.   110.175.117.151 (talk) 05:31, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
