Final destination Recife?
[edit]I had never read anywhere else that Flight 402's final destination was Recife. (I am Brazilian, live in São Paulo and remember this accident and its local press coverage very well, because it happened while I was on my way to work, and when I arrived there, I found a barrage of e-mails from friends abroad who had heard the news on TV and, unaware of the enormous size of São Paulo, were worried about my safety. My home, my workplace and the route in between were all far from the airport and I hadn't even learned about the accident until then. But after this curious event and being already sort of an aviation buff, I became very much interested.)
Not only hadn't I heard anything about that, but I find it very unlikely, because the next destination was definitely Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont Airport (SDU), which has extremely short runways that are barely enough for a medium-sized jetliner like a Fokker 100 to take off with enough fuel to fly to a not very distant destination, like São Paulo (366 km or 227 miles, according to Great Circle Mapper). Recife Airport (REC) is 1,858 km (1,155 miles) from SDU -- some 2:30 hours -- and a Fokker 100 would be unlikely to be able to take off from SDU with the weight of passengers and fuel for such a relatively long flight. If there were intermediate stops to explain that, this information is missing from the article.
Also, if I remember well, at that time operations at SDU were very restricted regarding the type of flights and destinations allowed, and only a handful of southeastern cities, plus Brasília, could be served from there. That included the prohibition of longer flights stopping at one of the allowed cities first (similar to what happens in the U.S. at LGA, DCA and DAL), so this would make any intermediate stops unfeasible as well. Moreover, the CGH-SDU route is so busy that airlines would be very unlikely at any time to schedule that route as a leg of a longer stopover flight, even if they could -- they would want the plane to make the more profitable return flight right away.
Where has that information come from? It is not in the references. A Google search did return a few pages mentioning the string of accidents and incidents with TAM Fokker 100s, one of which involved another flight that was coming from Recife. Some hasty reading or mistranslation from a Portuguese-language page, perhaps?

Additional citations proposal
[edit]Hmm. I think we should include more citations to improve the article's quality. The article contains only one citations and that's it. I suggest more citations should be included. MattChatt18 (talk) 17:08, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Outcome?
[edit]If I remember properly from the Mayday episode (but I may not, so I am not putting in the article), as a result of this crash, the switches were upgraded, an warning light was added to the cockpit for flight reversal deployment, and training was updated to include what to do in the event of in-flight reverser deployment. Could someone please add an Outcome section with verified information? Nutster (talk) 06:04, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
