Ives, Tchaikovsky 6, Dvořák 9
[edit]These works were performed in Boston and New York at about the same time that Ives was composing his symphony (remembering a note to a review of the Naxos recording of this work, I think, in Fanfare magazine a few years back) so it is indeed possible that Ives knew both of them, just to set that down :) Schissel | Sound the Note! 14:53, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- In the finale, close to the very end, there is to my ear a very strong allusion to Tchaikovsky's 5th at the analogous point in the structure. Though closer to quotation than the allusion to Bruckner's 3rd in Simpson's 9th. Jindřichův Smith (talk) 23:07, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm listening to it again. If you have the Sinclair recording on Naxos, cue up around 10:50 in track 8. The similarity to the scherzo of the Pathetique is blatantly obvious. Jindřichův Smith (talk) 23:24, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Discography
[edit]Why do we specifically mention Andrew Litton and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra? There's nothing special or historic about this recording. Is it paid product placement? One can simply say a performance typically runs xx minutes and is usually accompanied by a filler piece on compact disc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.44.133 (talk) 01:04, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
