First .com domain?

It's well documented that symbolics.com is the oldest registered domain, and people seem to equate that with first registered .com domain. It is very possible that other .com domains were registered before symbolics.com, and were simply allowed to expire over time. Is there any actual proof that symbolics.com was the first registered .com address? If not, I think references to that supposed fact should be either removed or altered to fit the actual case. Go to who.is and see the registration date. Registration was introduced in 1985 with .arpa domains.--GM83 (talk) 21:06, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Certainly here were domain names prior to the registration process, but they were simply the conversion of the HOSTS table file into the ".ARPA" domain. For example, MIT-AI became "MIT-AI.ARPA". Symbolics beat everyone else, including BBN and SRI, to be the first ".COM" name. Dicirnah (talk) 11:25, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
