Black widow?

[edit]

I don't agree that the symbol on Venom's chest (and sometimes on the symbiote's chest independently) is necessarily a black widow spider - it does not have the characteristic red hourglass marking. To me, it appears just to be an abstract, stylized spider. Saying it is intended to be a black widow is conjecture at best unless you can cite a source.

Scorn merge proposal

[edit]

I am proposing that Scorn (Marvel Comics) be merged into the Symbiote (comics) section, because she does not have notability on her own outside of that inferred from being bonded to a symbiote. Spidey104 02:08, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The character certainly isn't notable enough to carry an independent article, and this is a better place to merge than a more generic list of Marvel characters. Argento Surfer (talk) 19:56, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly all of the minor symbiotes could be merged in here, they only appear together and their plots all a repeat of each others. DWB (talk) / Comment on Dishonored's FA nom! 20:04, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Surprise! Surprise! I am back...and naturally am inclined to agree with you since I boldly merged it once. I of course didn't want to argue it when somebody boldly undid it. But since there is a consensus on it. Maybe it would be good to merge it on Symbiote or a List of Marvel Comics characters article. I am sorry I wasn't active enough to respond quickly. Welcome back J, remember that you can do a multi-merge discussion for several articles, I would support such a discussion. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 21:28, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your opinions. I have now merged the article. Spidey104 21:48, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well, I changed that. Penguin7812(Talk Page) 09:52, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dreadface?

[edit]

I can't find any other reference that states Dreadface is supposed to be a symbiote. WP:Original research? FunkMonk (talk) 09:26, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No. Penguin7812(Talk Page) 09:53, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Good defense of your position, there, Penguin. It definitely feels like original research. Here are the facts:
  • Dreadface's natural form is a black liquid alien goo.
  • The goo possesses creatures by wrapping itself around them.
  • It has a weakness to fire.
Those are all traits of symbiotes, yes, but there's never been any official indication that it's part of the Symbiote race. Absent any official classification in the comics, it should probably be removed. There are no names left (talk) 06:45, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fire?

[edit]

"Additionally, in some stories and games, (mostly mentioned in the 2000 Spider-Man video game), they are also weakened by fire." Alright, so that sentence is highly questionable. It has no sources and fire has consistantly been portrayed as one of the major weaknesses in the comics since at least the 90s. In Maximum Carnage one of the most useful people is Firestar for instance. When the Superior Spider-Man (aka Doctor Octavius) has weapons specifically designed to deal with symbiotes one is a web-shooter that shoots fire. The actual handbooks from Marvel always say something along the lines of "the Symbiote is vulnerable to sonic and heat-based attacks" (All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z #12, 2007, Venom/Mac Gargan entry). There is no real basis to suggest that fire is not a consistent weakness. 23.91.151.38 (talk) 05:31, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I have read a lot of issues where they get shot at, or shoot guns themselves (Malus and Agent Venom). The sonic energy from gunfire, although probably annoying, does not seem to be an especially noteable weakness normally. Maybe in a couple comics once it was used once or something, but it is not worth much attention without better sourcing. 23.91.151.38 (talk) 05:37, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
