Opening Summary for Sydney McLaughlin

[edit]

On November 5, 2022, I attempted to update Ms. McLaughlin's opening summary by leading with her honors and accomplishments which appear on World Athletics profile page for her. Within minutes after posting my summary was reverted to the previous summary by another contibutor, which a comment being, "It's way too much."

Her summary begins: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (née McLaughlin, born August 7, 1999) is an American hurdler and sprinter who specialises in the 400 meters hurdles.

My addition was:

"She is a two-time Olympic Champion, three-time World Champion, World silver medalist and was the World Youth Champion. She is a four-time World Record holder and currently hold the world record in the 400-meters hurdles. McLaughlin is also a three-time Diamond League meet winner and a one-time Diamond League Trophy winner. She won two US national titles, an NCAA championship, and is the NACAC record holder in the 400-meters hurdles."

"McLaughlin is a two-time Olympian making the US team in 2016 and 2020. She won the gold medal in the 400-meters hurdles in 51.46 seconds at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic setting an Olympic Record. At the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, she finished first setting the current world record of 50.58 seconds."

While the opening paragraph may appear lengthy, -- or as suggested "way too much," I would offer in my defense that what I wrote was an accurate portrayal of Ms. McLaughlin's athletic achievements to-date.

I'd like to ask other editors of track and field pages to make recommendations on how we can improve her opening summary or explain what rules or format is follow for track and field biographies..

Your feedback and advice is welcomed.

Thank you.
