Eldershaw quote
[edit]I must say I dislike the Eldershaw quote about ‘the first time it was disturbed by the sounds of the laborers axe since the creation’. It really seems to perpetuate the terra nullius myth. Aboriginal people had stone axes and no doubt this was far from the first time a tree was felled near Sydney Cove in 30,000 + years of occupation! I think possibly this section of the quote at least should be removed. 14.202.224.133 (talk) 13:00, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Union Jack
[edit]Other pages, including those on the First Fleet reference the fact that the Union Jack was not raised until the colony of New South Wales was formally proclaimed on the 8th Feb, and that the first flag raising (of the naval ensign) was in fact done by a party from HMS Supply when she arrived on 25th Jan. Should this page be edited to match? Jaxsonjo (talk) 23:19, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
