1930 World Cup
[edit]Why didn't the Swiss try to qualify for the 1930 World Cup?
Shortly after the big economic crisis of 1929, Swiss government bodies (Nationalrat) decided it was too much expensive to send a Swiss national team as far as Uruguay, for a such "trivial thing" like the game of football. 13 countries (4 europeans) entered the first World Cup.
Team colors
[edit]I've seen the Swiss team on pictures wearing the home colors (red/white/red), but I've yet to see them wear the away colors as listed in the topic in this world cup (2006). But I did see them wear a full red uniform. Are the current color schemes for the team correct ? A lot of teams wear red, maybe the full red uniform is only for the world cup, but I'd doubt that.
It is correct. The white-red-white is the official away jersey. The full red is used when teams play in completely white.
I don't know what the right answer is (although the above explanation sounds reasonable), the article contradicts itself. Under Team Kit is it says all-white and all-red are the colors, but the color diagram shows red-white-red, etc. Can someone find a definitive source and update the article? 7-0?
[edit]Why is Switzerland's 7-0 win over San Marino listed on the page as the largest win? Only the 9-0 win against Lithuania should be included surely. Jamie|C 11:53, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Language
[edit]I am very curious about it. What language do Swiss players speak to each other and what language is used in the locker room during breaks? Thanks for reply. Tymek (talk) 20:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps the language issue is the reason that only three players sing the Swiss national anthem before games. 192.40.24.4 (talk) 17:15, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Shandafurdie
Image copyright problem with Image:SFV Logo.svg
[edit]The image Image:SFV Logo.svg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Fair use rationale for File:SFV Logo.svg
[edit]File:SFV Logo.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a non-free use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:32, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
Title change
[edit]I'd like to propose that the article be moved to Switzerland men's national football team so that the men's and women's team have the same title format, in the interest of promoting gender equality in sport and as a rejection of the idea of 'the male default'. Opinions?AutumnLeaves4876 (talk) 12:26, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, this change needs to be done. Gender equality aside, it simply breaks Wikipedia's rules on precision to not tell us what the subject of the article is in the title. You genuinely do not know this is the men's team by looking at the title. You might guess, but you literally do not know, because it does not tell you. And since the entire point of the article is to be about the men's team... it's kind of important. There's no excuse anymore and this fix has to be made.
