Eyewitness accounts

  • Artillery batteries of the Corps

I read a book about voulunteers in Finland tthat came from Gotland. One of the things that struck me in that book was athe tale of a young "Gotlänning" that served with the 15cm artillery. They where the first unit to reach the front way before the infantry where they relieved Finnish unit's. The 15cm guns where modern and they did not have any ammunition restrictions as the suply line came from stocks in sweden. The description tell of how they engaged in counter battery fire and fired barrages at even minor russian incursions. My memmory is a little vauge but i recall them being there for somethign like 3 weeks before other swedish units arrived. It would be quite interesting if someone had more information as the artillery actually seems to have served the longest on the front line. That the Swedish battery was apretiated by the finnish infantry goes without saying.
