Editing in Progress as of Aug 19 2009
[edit]I'm researching this author and will be adding new material, but I'm working off-line; I encourage other editors (if working concurrently) to similarly work off-line as to avoid Edit conflicts. I have no axe to grind here other than make the article less like an advertisement, and more in keeping with Wikipedia's standards. When I'm done making changes I'll revise this discussion here. Finished rewriting (Aug 19) general comments about status of article
[edit]I think this article is better but needs attention from more experienced editors (I'm only a neophyte). I added references from good sources, rewrote much of the article so it doesn't sound too advertisish (?) included categories. I removed the COI notice and the lacking references notice; I'm not sure what "wikifying" means so I left the tag there. And about "notability" -- well I think Suza Scalora is interesting enough to be in Wikipedia since she's clearly a competent photographer and best-selling author, although I think other editors should weigh in on this. Some of her photographs sell for significant sums ($1400) plus she continues to publish new books -- new one coming out september 29 2009. I added comments from critics about her books (Newsweek, USA Today). Plus, I think her face should be up there too, with an author "infobox" too. Couldn't find her date of birth -- probably late 50s, early 60s. Tomwsulcer (talk) 17:56, 19 August 2009 (UTC)tomwsulcer
Also -- I went through this thing very fast and didn't have time to check everything. I didn't get sources on some of the stuff which I left in. I caught a mistake "Woman's Wear Daily" --> "Women's ..." but there are others probably in there. Tomwsulcer (talk) 17:59, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Tomwsulcer
One more thing -- on Wikimedia Commons, I couldn't find any pictures made by Suza Scalora -- there are ones by Mike Scalora. Advise people to upload pictures (of Scalora herself, or works done BY Scalora which are free to the public) to Wikimedia Commons, and alert editors HERE in this section that such images are uploaded, with proper copyright permissions, and tags, so they can be retrieved (tags => Scalora, Suza, photography, fashion, book, etc) Tomwsulcer (talk) 18:03, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Tomwsulcer
More stuff about SS (paragraph not inserted because of edit conflict) please PASTE IN FOLLOWING PARA when ready
[edit]Scalora worked as a photographer in New York City, with advertising clients including Origins, Avon, Disney, and Little Brown.[1] She was profiled in industry publications such as PDN, Communication Arts, Elle,[1] GQ,[1] and American Photo. Her pictures have appeared in Time magazine.[2] In February 2005 she was awarded a prize by camera maker Hasselblad.[3][4] In 2006, she was named one of the best up and coming beauty photographers by Women’s Wear Daily.[5] One commentator described Scalora's photography as "really graphic work with stuff glued to the models."[1]

Suggested New First Paragraph
[edit]I'm starting to think that the main thing in SS's life isn't being an author -- rather, it's a photographer. And her books are, in one sense, showcases for her photographic talent, with little text, but lots of pictures. That is, I think the #1 thing is -- she's a top photographer (and everything else in her life relates to this). So I'm thinking the lead should be something like this:Tomwsulcer (talk) 13:32, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Tomwsulcer
- "Suza Scalora is a professional photographer whose work has appeared in fashion magazines, books, television. Her work is noted for being "intense", "creative", "visually stunning". She has written and co-authored several books about fairies in which her photography is prominent. She lives in New York City."Tomwsulcer (talk) 13:32, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Tomwsulcer
That's my tentative take on what the first paragraph should be; just running it by other editors first. Tomwsulcer (talk) 13:32, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Tomwsulcer
PS I contacted talent agency to try to get pictures uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.Tomwsulcer (talk) 13:32, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Tomwsulcer
