Merging Survey ship

[edit]

It has been suggested that Survey ship should be merged into Research vessel. Hydrographic survey vessels typically carry out concurrent research on submarine and mine detection, or other tasks for various scientific agencies. And hydrographic mapping, even if not always strictly scientific, is most certainly a form of "research". I would like to see the merge, with sections added for the different types of research vessels: survey vessels, polar research vessels, oceanographic research vessels, fishery research vessels, oil exploration research vessels, naval research vessels, and so on.

I would also like to see the section "List of some research vessels by country" transferred to a simple list article of its own titled "List of research vessels by country". --Geronimo20 (talk) 04:34, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree. Both articles are very stubby when you take into consideration that Research vessel is posing as a list; and that list should be broken off to an article of its own. Combined together, they leave a lot of room for expansion on ships that primarily do research of different types. --Brad (talk) 23:40, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disagree. The merge should be the other way around as survey vessels is a much wider class than research vessels. Not all survey vessels take part in research while I would categorize all research vessels as survey. --Skippern (talk) 02:50, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
