Micro and Meso

[edit]

The following passage from the article can't be right (boldface added):

...the yearly (sometimes multi-yearly) period is divided to micro and meso cycles, where each micro cycle is responsible for the development of a specific (sometimes several) basic training function and parameter, whereas macro cycles are responsible for the development of complex parameters/functions (such as muscle strength).

I believe "macro" should at least be changed to "meso".

But I think the following might be more accurate:

...the training period is divided into micro cycles (typically a week in length), meso cycles (typically three to thirteen micro cycles) and macro cycles (typically a few meso cycles), each with a specific goal. Each micro cycle is usually responsible for the development of a specific basic training function and parameter. Each meso cycle is responsible for the development of a complex parameter/function such as muscle strength. The length of the macro cycle is determined by the competition or participation schedule, and is often a year.

However, I know little about the subject, and haven't found an authoritative source, so I do not recommend inserting the above text into the article. It's a straw man, not an iron man. Larry Tesler (talk) 06:55, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article

[edit]

I have found a source that may be useful; I am not an expert on Supercompensation, but perhaps somebody who is can have a look at this article and pick out information that is correct (if there is any):

Defining supercompensation training By Vernon Gambetta

Declining fitness

[edit]

After the supercompensation period, does the fitness level continue to decline if no training occurs? or does the fitness level remain at the base level once it is reached after supercompensation? Will the fitness level decline if the body remains inactive? if so, when will it happen? How might one measure when their supercompensation period has been achieved? Length of recovery and supercompensation

[edit]

How can someone tell what their length of recovery period and supercompensation period is? Wsmss (talk) 23:32, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
