Move proposal
[edit]Since there are now several articles about subjects called "Sundre" (Sundre, Sundre Airport, Sundre, Gotland, Sundre Church and Orlo Sundre) I propose that this article is moved to "Sundre, Alberta" and that "Sundre" is converted into a disambiguation page. I doubt that a primary "Sundre" article is necessary, but suggestions are welcome. A similar discussion was held at Tofta now at Talk:Tofta, Adelsö and even posted as a requested move where it was deemed a WP:SNOW move, but I think it's polite to ask before doing this move. w.carter-Talk 17:11, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
- Are you aware that this isn't an official requested move because the requested move template hasn't been added to the this page? Either way I oppose the move. The airport and church are infrastructure, that would never be referred to as simply Sundre, nor listed on a disambiguation page as per WP:PTM. That only leaves the settlements in Alberta and Gotland wanting to use the name "Sundre". I believe that the Alberta town is the primary usage because it is English speaking, it has a bigger population, and the article is longer. 117Avenue (talk) 00:19, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hi 117Avenue, thank you for helping me sorting this out. Yes, I know that this is not an official request. When I made such a one at a similar case at "Tofta", I almost got my fingers slapped for not being bold and do the move, which is why I choose the middle way of talking to people to see how this could be resolved. Thanks for creating the DAB page. Some of the entries there are redundant since they are administrative names for the same area during different time periods. These changes are covered in the Gotland article. Per your comment, I have also read up a bit better about DAB pages, a tricky part of the ol' WP. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 06:48, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- I would also oppose the move per 117Avenue's rationale above. A convincing case would need to be researched and presented to support abandoning its current WP:PRIMARYTOPIC title in favour of a DAB. Hwy43 (talk) 11:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Hwy43, thanks for your post-fix-input. I've already accepted and thanked 117Avenue for how they resolved the matter, which was a good way. I don't think we need to take this discussion any further. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 11:37, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
@W.carter: According to the Swedish Wikipedia they're different administrative bodies. 117Avenue (talk) 18:29, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- @117Avenue: Yes, they are different sorts of administrations from different eras covering the same area of land. The Swedish Wikipedia have up to five articles about the same area (it is after all our bureaucratic history), but since all of these areas/parishes/sockens/districts are relatively small, I collect all these aspects under one name and explain all the different versions of the area there. It seems more logical than having five very small stubs here with slightly different names that no one outside Sweden understands. I have chosen the socken version per WP:COMMONNAME since that is what people mostly mean when they talk about these places and since that article is usually the one with the most info about the place on the Swedish Wikipedia. Even so it will take a while to fix all the articles about the different areas on Gotland, so please bear with me. In the case of Sundre, Gotland a full but abreviated description of the area would be like this: "Sundre, the name of the small central church village in Sundre District, formerly known as Sundre socken and also Sundre parish with Sundre Church, formerly known as Sundre country municipality and Sundre parish." When talking about any of these, the common way is to say just "Sundre". I think it would be unproductive to have five articles for this line of succession when it will eventually all be explained in one article. Most of this is already in the article. Please read it. Also the new District thing has just been imposed on us, most Swedes haven't even heard of it, so the "socken" desination is still very much alive. It will probably be years (if ever) before "District" is used in any wider sense. w.carter-Talk 18:59, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- @117Avenue:I also saw that on Wikidata you had written about Sundre church village: "a settlement/church village in Sundre District since 2016". That didn't come out quite right. The district may be from 2016, but the church village is of medieval origin. I wanted to explain this here so you know why I tweak that text. w.carter-Talk 19:22, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
