Birth year

[edit]

It's not clear to me whether Sundhar Pichai was born in 1967 or 1972. I can find references for both years.

-- MartinMichlmayr 21:12, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If we had a primary source, such as a bio directly authorized by Pichai, that, I think would trump the secondary sources. Barring that, we could just say that "sources differ as to his birth name and date" and list both variants for each. Barte (talk) 00:09, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name

[edit]

The article says that Pichai's birth name is Pichai Sundarajan (Tamil : பிச்சை சுந்தராஜன் ), but I can also find articles on the Internet that say his birth name is Sundharam Pichai. I don't know which one is correct. -- MartinMichlmayr 21:15, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@MartinMichlmayr: Do you have any links to those articles? Iady391 | Talk to me here 17:04, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It says his father's name is "Regunatha." The actual spelling is Raghunatha. Please correct.124.123.104.167 (talk) 13:10, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Indian American

[edit]

I have changed "Indian American" in the lead sentence to "Indian-born, naturalized American." The reason for this is two-fold. "Indian American" is an ethnic group, not a nationality. MOS:BIO#Opening_paragraph says, "3. Context (location, nationality, or ethnicity); 3.2 Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." "Indian American" is also inexact. It is often applied to born and raised Americans of Indian heritage. This Mr. Pichai is not, having arrived in the US after he finished his bachelor's degree. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 00:17, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is no documentation anywhere that Pichai is even a naturalized American though.208.90.15.25 (talk) 08:57, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

One-Word REVERT planned

[edit]

The change that I think is needed (and, that I plan to make)

[edit]

I intend to REVERT the edit during which the article version Revision as of 12:09, 27 March 2017 was created. That edit added one word (the word "once").

Please [feel free to] "see also" the DIFF listing which can be seen at https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Sundar_Pichai&diff=prev&oldid=772516225 (FYI).

Ordinarily, I would just go ahead and be bold (as in, ... see WP:BRD) and make such a one-word change, without benefit of an (up-front, proactive) announcement on a "Talk:" page, to anticipate objections or questions, and to give everyone a chance to explain, in case there is some mistake and/or any disagreement; however, at Help:Reverting#Before_reverting it says, (in the second sentence), [quote]:

In the edit summary or on the talk page, succinctly explain why the change you are reverting was a bad idea or why reverting it is a better idea.

...and I have "had it" with trying to anticipate objections or questions, while also trying to fit everything in to the finite "tweet space" allowed for an "edit summary". Hence ... this "Talk:" page [entry].

The reason why I think that this change is needed

[edit]

Before the addition of the single word "once", the subject of the sentence was [the pronoun] "he", and [the nucleus of] the predicate of the sentence was the verb "stepped". However, after the word "once" was added ... NOW, everything from the word "once" all the way to the end of the sentence, becomes a prepositional phrase!, ... modifying some clause that does not exist. So, the overall sentence, no longer has a subject and a predicate! It cannot be diagrammed! (at least, not in the way that an ordinary "common or garden-variety" sentence [which is syntactically valid] can be diagrammed).

I understand that, in poetry, one can invent and use any desired construct, no matter whether it "obeys" the rules of grammar for sentences or not. However, IMHO an ordinary factual / historical article like this is not the appropriate place for that 'level' of poetic license. YMMV.

Any comments?

[edit]

If anyone here disagrees, and/or has any insight into the reason why the word "once" was added, at 12:09 on "27 March 2017", then ... any comments or other advice would be welcomed.

..."else", I intend to go ahead with this one-word REVERT. Mike Schwartz (talk) 03:35, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, this seems like an entirely undisputable grammatical error. I've just gone ahead and fixed it. A bold edit with a summary of "grammar" would have been fine here. --McGeddon (talk) 09:29, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

google is a creative

[edit]

Google is an American multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products. These include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, software, and hardware. Google was founded in 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University, in California. Together, they own about 14 percent of its shares, and control 56 percent of the stockholder voting power through supervoting stock. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.125.106.50 (talk) 04:14, 9 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Caste

[edit]

Please do not refer to Pichai's putative caste affiliation in this article unless you can provide a high-quality source that demonstrates him self-identifying the affiliation. It doesn't matter how many sources mention it, if he doesn't say it himself. That's at the heart of WP:BLP, and the same applies to any alleged religious affiliation. - Sitush (talk) 16:07, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please change the salary from $199.7 Million to $1.3 Million. This page has fake data and is misleading people.  Not done: The documentation for the infobox template makes it clear that the "Salary" field means salary or annual compensation. The cited source also makes it clear that Pichai's annual compensation for 2016 was indeed reported at US$199.7 million in compliance with US securities laws. That only a minor portion of this is cash salary is neither unusual for top executives at large companies nor misleading. According to standard businesses practices, his total annual compensation package was valued at the larger figure and that's what is reported in reliable sources. If you want to challenge the way biographical articles on corporate executives treat compensation, you need to start a request for comments at an appropriate venue (which would not be this page). Birthplace is wrong in the Early life section

[edit]

The article lists his birthplace as Madras (Chennai) in the Early life and education section, but as Madurai in the lede and the infobox. Of the sources cited for Madras, the first source explicitly states he is born in Madurai. The second source says he is born in Chennai, but is an editable reference and has no source for this claim. The third source has no statement on where he is born, only that he was "Chennai-bred", consistent with him being raised in Chennai as per other sources. Combined with the source in the lede saying he was born in Madurai, all reliable sources say it should be corrected to Madurai. Hemusk (talk) 04:04, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
