Perhaps worth noting that these bacteria use H2 (and some other e-) donors, send it through electron carries embeded in the membrane to generate H+ gradient, quite similar as in respiration, except the terminal acceptor isn't O2 (as well as different donor) but rather SO42-. Sulfate-reducing microrganisms
