Talk:Su-30MKI
I posted this article because the original Su-30 Article was crossing the 32KB limit - so I split the article. Moreover Su-30MKI is most modern version and Most Advanvced Russian Fighter in active Service and is much different from other any other Su-30 Variant. The Aircraft came into news , primarily due to its capabilities compared to American Counterparts. All this leads to Su-30MKI dominating the whole Su-30 article.
-For Gods sake people stop using Bharat- Rakshak as a source for the NO11M radar and other data. The NO11 CANNOT track 20 and engage 8, its 15 and 4 respectively as shown by Irkut. Bharat-Rakshaks own data is dated and needs to be updated. For instance, B-R shows the HUD as the VEH-3000 from Thales, in reality its the Su-967 from Elbit. Variants of the same model were chosen for the Jaguar and MiG-27 upgrades as well by the IAF and DARE.

-Irkut data is for the first radar version not the updated version delivered to Indian Airforce. Bharat-Rakshak contains the correct radar data on the delivered Indian versions currently being used in combat service missions.
- -You are badly mistaken. This is the hundredth time you have reverted without even understanding what you are writing. BR's information *is* out of date. The RC-1 and RC-2 for eg can each track only a maximum of 8 targets, forget any talk of 20 TWS, and 8 engage. Also, sign your statements when editing or discussing. The Irkut data refers to Bars Mk3, which is when all radar modes were implemented. Bars Mk1 can only track 10 and is restricted to Air to air targets. If you continue to have doubts raise the topic on BR itself and you *will* be corrected. The only reason why that errata continues to remain on BR is because there are no volunteers available to revamp all the pages.

Radar overstatement?
[edit]"The radar can track 20 air targets and engage the 8 most threatening targets simultaneously [3]. These targets include from cruise missiles to even motionless helicopters." I would like to know exactly how a doppler system can detect motionless helicopters; this sounds like propaganda. 72.9.6.64 23:05, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
read the source, it could be propaganda but it is possible to detect cruise missles on a radar (how else will missle defence work). I got no idea for a motionless helicopter
- Motionless helicopters are detected as any other target. It's just that a flying one has huge RCS from the disc. Low-level cruising missile detection is a feature since MiG-31 and Su-27. CP/M comm |Wikipedia Neutrality Project| 13:32, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
A hovering helicopter is not exactly motionless. Perhaps it means 'even hovering helicopters.' JaderVason 22:59, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
what is the HMS now?
[edit]Eariler it was confusion over HUD. Now which HMS Su-30 has Sura-K or Dash-III.
Su-30MKI is the Jewel in South Asia, Can be most fearful in combat due to its sheer range & size. IAF should carefully select the best of the best possible upgrades for Su-30MKI to make it true Air Dominance Fighter.
And the two sections, "Improvements" & "Comparision with other Variants" should be made into one section as they are same.
Weight Specs are incorrect
[edit]I was surprised to see how come a Fighters empty weight is 24 tons. Su-30MKIs empty weight is 17.7 tons. Normal take off weight is 25 tons and maximum take off weight is given as 34.5 tons But some sources give it has 38 tons. So what exactly is the max weight or it changes regularly as new production versions come out??
by the specs given, the maximum internal fuel is 9 tons, max external weapons load is 8 tons. So 17 tons total Plus 17 tons empty weight will make it 34 tons.
one surprising fact due to composites is, F-22 weighs almost same as Su-30 but still carries max 15 ton warload, almost two times what Sukhoi carries. Hopefully Composites on Su-30MKI will allow it to carry greater warload. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 219.91.198.10 (talk) 05:29, 31 December 2006 (UTC).
Well, the Fox-bat/hounds are interceptors with the need for speed, and the need for speed makes them heavy. So they are much heavier than, and much faster than any other fighter. A little food for thought.JaderVason 14:57, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
