[edit]

It seems to me that there are too many external links on this page. Perhaps a seperate page, which is specifically intended to list online study abroad resources might be a suitable location for such content, but the main page is not, in my opinion. See What Wikipedia Is Not and External Links guidelines for more information -GlamdringCookies 22:39, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree completely. I could not find one single link in clear compliance with WP:EL, so I replaced the whole section with a link to the appropriate DMOZ category. For anyone who is thinking of adding a link here, please consider submitting it to DMOZ instead. Haakon 15:51, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Percentages

[edit]

If anyone had the information regarding roughly how many students do study abroad during their academic career, that might be interesting to this article. I read once it was quite low, but I do not remember the exact number. I'll see what I can find. :) 67.164.64.40 01:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

http://opendoors.iienetwork.org/ publishes a report annually for a whole range of study abroad statistics. Currently, their statistic for US Students going abroad is 205,983 students -- an increase of 8% over the prior year's report. They have breakdowns for other categories as well. European ERASMUS exchanges

[edit]

Perhaps a mention of the EU's ERASMUS programme is required here, as it accounts for thousands of student exchanges each year within Europe.

People who watch Study abroad

[edit]

Hey all, I was just curious about who all have this page on their watchlist. Here are the people who've made substantial edits to it, and if you've got it on your watchlist, give a holla back. The reason I'm doing this (aside from curiosity) is that I think this article is still lacking, and I want to see if we can do something about that. Study abroad is a huge part of many college students' academic careers, and it would be great if the article about it were up to par. So, holla back, so to speak. And here's the list I've got so far: GlamdringCookies, Haakon, Freakofnurture, GraemeL, Zzuuzz, Imroy, Nlu, Pavel Vozenilek, User:Henry Flower, Siroxo, DJ Clayworth, and RJFJR for the cleanup marker (from a year ago). Let's fix up this article. -GlamdringCookies 01:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Expand Tag

[edit]

Just added the expand tag, so hopefully this article will get worked on by more of the community at large. I feel that it only expresses a perfunctory description of something that is a large part of the experience of higher education for many students. There is much more that could be said, and overall the article is far from featured article status. Perhaps that can now change. -GlamdringCookies 00:33, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Negative influence on local citizens

[edit]

I don't know how this can be mixed with the article.

Recently a lot of studies done in Denmark show that the presence of exchange students can lower the performance of the native students: See: Studerende fra andre lande sænker niveauet (Foreign students lowers the level), the newspaper 24hours, April 1 2009 and De får ikke en kinamands chance (They don't get the chance of a Chinaman) - the last link is about some students from China who became disruptive when they were forced to study indenpendent instead of only doing what they were told.

I believe there should be a chapter about that the students should remember that they are guests in a country and shouldn't destroy school work for the native population and there is a huge difference in work ethic in various countries. The study guide for foreign students considering a stay in Denmark describe a huge number of things to take into consideration before traveling 62.243.186.70 (talk) 20:18, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think the reference to the circumstance in Denmark is an isolated incident and not at all the norm. I challenge anyone who would want to add any implication that foreign students are especially disruptive in another country to link to studies that come to this conclusion, not just to a newspaper article or two. Why not also include articles on how many foreign students have been robbed, raped, killed or otherwise victimized by the "natives" while studying abroad? -- Jcravens42 09:29, 09 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

International students have different cultures and languages so they do not feel comfortable with the local people. They have one major problem that they have nothing in common to talk about especially about the cultural things. Local students are also affected by the chances of their getting admission in the higher educational institution as more students some international community are coming to U.S for studying which is the major impact on local citizens.--Khalifa alkaabi (talk) 21:16, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Making This Page Not-So USA Focused

[edit]

I tried to rewrite a few things to make this page not so USA-centric, but I think the best way to improve this page would be to get someone from the ERASMUS programme (European Union) to contribute -- Jcravens42 09:31, 09 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What about other countries

[edit]

This article used to focus on a globalized view on this area, but now it is all about the United States and the trends within this country. People from other countries study outside their country too and this article once had a Denmark section. Should we create articles for every country in the future? According to the article, I found the article is more about the benefits of studying abroad. I think it would be necessary to also talk about the disadvantages of studying abroad to be more comprehensive. The article also pointed out that there are many third-party providers sponsored program in operation in the United States, I found it is very useful. I have noticed that there are many third-party providers in China, to help people to apply school and assist them to settle down in their new school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 8.41.197.222 (talk) 19:56, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
