What would you consider the base term from which this invented term is taken? Face-off? I think it would be helpful for non-U.S. readers if we could link this to some article that would clarify the concept of a one-on-one competition.Lawikitejana 20:22, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would definately agree that the origin is Faceoff. Kershner 16:42, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the pointer. Unfortunately, if we link to that, it will be helpful, but perhaps only marginally so. It would be good if there were either an article or a subsection of the "faceoff" article that explained these derivative uses. Such an explanation would benefit non-native speakers of English (and possibly those from outside North America).Lawikitejana 07:31, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name

[edit]

While expanding the article I also changed his official birth name. There is only one source for this, however it is a source that I've found to be well-researched about other people from Missouri and consistently proven correct. As oft the case with online sources, they tend to parrot each other on some basic data. "Stone" was/is more of a nickname than his official name. I've tried sources online in Texas to get a copy of his birth certificate, but so far no luck. Sector001 (talk) 19:15, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AGAIN let me reiterate that the name is properly sourced. Twice now it has been changed and I've reverted it. I have asked the person to discusss the matter here in hopes of avoiding an edit war. The source for the name "Lester" is Missouri Legends: Famous people from the Show-Me State by John W. Brown. Here's a link to the online version of the exact page I used. http://www.missourilegends.com/media-and-journalism/stone-phillips/ It clearly states that "Lester" is his first name at birth. The source has been reliable when used on a multitude of other Wikis. Sector001 (talk) 01:42, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
