Bannings

[edit]

The article says he is banned from the EU, however, as I understand it the EU does not have that power which resides with individual EU members? Philafrenzy (talk) 07:05, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Main YouTube Channel Terminated

[edit]

It should be worth noting that his main YouTube channel has been terminated July 6. JoshGaming2003 (talk) 08:36, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I can't add sources using my iPhone. If you are able to add the sources, please add these for me! JoshGaming2003 (talk) 02:42, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I did provide two sources but I can't find anymore sources that talk about his main YouTube channel being terminated. JoshGaming2003 (talk) 23:23, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK, here's another source I found: https://pulpitandpen.org/2020/07/07/notorious-anti-lgbt-pastor-steven-anderson-permanently-banned-from-youtube/ JoshGaming2003 (talk) 23:31, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

JoshGaming2003, that's a blog Elizium23 (talk) 00:21, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's a .org website. JoshGaming2003 (talk) 01:22, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If I can't find anymore sources, then we will have to find more. Not forcing you to because I assume good faith in you JoshGaming2003 (talk) 01:24, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's important to note that his channel was terminated and yes, we do need reliable sources to confirm this. I am not the first one to find out but I did find out about his channel being terminated. But each time I try to find reliable sources, others assume they are blogs instead of looking at the full thing. Probably because there are not enough sources that explain this JoshGaming2003 (talk) 01:32, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Here is another link I came across talking about him being banned from YT. Also, in this article it says he is now using YT channels under different names to still post his videos. I found that a channel named Tuscon Baptist on YT is one of these other channels he is now using to post some of his videos under the radar. Members of his church are also posting their sermon videos there, perhaps to make it less obvious that it is Anderson's channel. There is a Tucson Baptist Church in Tuscon that appears to NOT be linked with Anderson's church, and so his using a channel titled Tucson Baptist seems not just rude to the church that actually has that name but it seems deceptive, as if intended to make it appear that it is not related to Anderson. Do you think we have enough links/sources now to prove his banning from YT? Thanks. 2607:FB91:1003:1CC0:CD9:FFAF:2F71:7C63 (talk) 15:24, 29 January 2022 (UTC) https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2020/09/08/christian-hate-pastor-steven-anderson-has-found-a-way-around-his-youtube-ban/[reply]

None of those qualify as reliable sources. Patheos is not considered reliable (see WP:PATHEOS). Similarly, Pulpit and Pen is a self-published blog (although they operate their "news" as a news aggregator, publishing content from other sites). Please read WP:RS and make sure you understand it (and WP:BLPRS as it pertains specifically to WP:BLP). There is no question that Anderson's original account was terminated for violating Youtube's ToS, but did you see how that I worded that? That's not the same as saying "Anderson was banned from Youtube" because there's no evidence that he personally has been banned. If you're going to add this, you need to be careful with your words. If you add something contentious with an unreliable source, it will be reverted. And getting into any of the other mess you mentioned is not only contentious, but also speculative. You need to be able to take your personal POV out of it. Additionally, the lack of reliable sources should indicate that this isn't actually notable. Political categorization

[edit]

This is not a political article and to add it to an overt political category (Category:Far-right politics in the United States) needs more support than "He is praying for the death of Barack Obama". That's subjective, and WP:BLP standards require something more objective and supportable. Besides, if we categorized everyone that publicly said something bad/offensive about any given President, the political categories would be overrun with irrelevant articles. Steven Anderson

[edit]

The Pastor is entitled to his opinions it's called free speech. What you are doing is anti free speech by highlighting his beliefs, it is communist. Are you going to highlight every skin head that walks this earth? Get out of here and grow up. 2601:6C0:C200:520:FC9D:98D8:9463:3972 (talk) 20:16, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good edit, bad edit summary

[edit]

For the record: I agree with the current latest edit (rev. 1204316528 of 2:14, 6 February 2024) which was a good edit backed by WP:BLP and other policies. Since the awful edit summary that accompanied it is a non-content related, behavioral issue, I have taken that up at the IP's talk page, where it belongs, and not here. Editors who are tempted to revert the latest edit simply because of the edit summary, please don't; that would re-introduce a BLP violation. Thanks. Son's neo-nazism

[edit]

It's been alleged that one of Anderson's sons has expressed neo-nazi views. If so, I feel this should be included. 12.189.143.19 (talk) 16:29, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Child Abuse Allegations

[edit]

I removed content which is a clear violation of WP:BLP, namely, unsubstantiated rumors from his son that he engaged in child abuse by whipping his son with an electrical cord and slamming another of his children's heads into a windowsill. The interview is unsubstantiated tabloid gossip. I realize a lot of folks absolutely hate Steven Anderson and he is not very popular, but that as it may, his bio deserves applying the basic rules of WP:BLP. 24.21.161.89 (talk) 04:12, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, these are accusations made by the person who claims to have been the victim. That's not necessarily the same as unsubstantiated rumors. I'm not suggesting inclusion based solely on this particular interview since it's not a vetted source. But I wouldn't reject it as tabloid gossip either. ButlerBlog (talk) 20:54, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A youtube video posted by an anonymous source claiming to be a primary source is a far cry from coming anyway close to being verifiable or "vetted". How do we know that the person in that video making these statements is even his son? We need this to be published in a reliable secondary source (and more than one of them). Otherwise it's not verifiable as true. WP:BLP requires that controversial content be true (for BLP content) and backed up with concrete sources. These are serious allegations and need substantiating sources or they don't belong in his bio. 24.21.161.89 (talk) 06:36, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, what do you call the two other interviews? Steven Anderson also has basically alluded to the fact that those three are his kids. 50.127.118.75 (talk) 00:58, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Child Abuse Allegations (revisited)

[edit]

I noticed a previous talk post referring to Anderson’s child abuse allegations as “tabloid gossip”, and in light of a very real recent interview held with his daughter Miriam Anderson, I would like to suggest that his child abuse allegations are very much founded and deserve legitimate consideraton for addition to his page.

Dead Domain. (2024, September 26). Interviewing Hate Preacher Steven Anderson’s Runaway Daughter About His Lies And Abuse. YouTube. https://youtu.be/Gpeu6F2Cxzw?si=bT937lz7bBvBdoHe

This is what I would believe to be a very credible account, even further strengthened by corroboration from another of Anderson’s children. It’s very much worth serious mention on his page. 174.20.49.246 (talk) 02:34, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

YouTube isn’t a reliable source on Wikipedia. WifiFu (talk) 05:12, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd often agree, but in this case the person who experienced the abuse certainly is a reliable source. I'd be wary of citing YouTube too, but the video is an almost uninterrupted direct account from Miriam Anderson of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her parents. 174.20.49.246 (talk) 07:49, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention that Steven Anderson has acknowledged Miriam Anderson as his daughter. 50.127.118.75 (talk) 05:36, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Last time this was discussed, someone said "A youtube video posted by an anonymous source claiming to be a primary source is a far cry from coming anyway close to being verifiable or "vetted". How do we know that the person in that video making these statements is even his son? We need this to be published in a reliable secondary source (and more than one of them)."
We now have primary sources in which Steven Anderson acknowledges the youtube channel (Dead Domain), and says that those are his children.
