Height?

[edit]

The article say's he's 6'7" - on TMS one of the commentators said he was actually 6'8". I don't see how I can change it without a better citation. 212.84.96.84 (talk) 10:11, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cricinfo says he is 6'7" here, and while I have much admiration for TMS, they are neither verifiable, or all that reliable at times! Harrias talk 10:13, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This page says that he is 6'7" (infobox) and 6'8" (introduction). Anyone know the truth? Jdh1971 (talk) 03:55, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MCC makes Law, ICC makes Regulation

[edit]

"the ICC introduced a new law to declare a delivery a no ball, rather than a dead ball, if the non-striker's wicket is broken in the act of delivery – a regulation now commonly known as "Finn's Law"

Not quite. The ICC doesn't govern the cricket I play. Recreational cricket for example uses the Law (capital L) of cricket, as written and copyright MCC. The various ICC (and ECB) regulations modify the Law, which still applies where it isn't explicitly modified. So this 2013 English summer, Finn's Law doesn't apply to my games because it isn't Law till 1 Oct 2013, but "Finn's regulation" does apply to this summer's Ashes because they apply from 30 Apr. Also you don't seem to share my view that this is really Smith's Law, although surely he is worth a mention by name, since he and his side are the real authors: even if this was not intentional gamesmanship, it is his actions that have caused the change. – The cricketer is the primary topic with ~97% of pageviews. [1] A hatnote will sort out any discrepancies for the ice hockey player and the character from Lost Souls. —Jonny Nixon (talk) 04:02, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Steven Finn titles a page with content and so is ineligible to be used as a target page title unless that page is also renamed. This request has been altered to reflect that fact. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 15:05, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If it were just the 2 sportsmen then a hat-note would suffice. Given the book character is Steve rather than Steven, I'm not sure if Steve Finn should redirect to the cricketer (as more people are more likely to be looking for him under a variant of his name) or a DAB or the book, but if there is a DAB it should mention both spellings.
