His namesake paternal grandfather was a first generation son of immigrants from present day Slovakia. His paternal grandmother, Jane Rose nee Chojnacka, was a first generation daughter of immigrants from Poland and that is probably why his grandfather, Stephen John, has a Polish nickname.
