He was decorated with the "Takovski krst sa ukrštenim mačevima" medal for bravery during the 1876-1878 wars against the Turks. He died in the town of Čačak on April 29, 1929
He earned Takovski krst sa ukrštenim mačevima 2nd rank for his role in liberation of Pirot 1878. He was the commander of a 150 men company sent to attack the Turkish lines on the hill called Nishor from the back, and he got it for being literally the first man to jump into the Turkish redoubt. He was later repeatedly decorated for his roles as an army commander in subsequent wars, but this was the medal he was the most proud of, as he had earned it for personal bravery.
