NPOV

[edit]

Although I like the addition of a history section, it reads quite NPOV. It almost looks as if Stein Mart's PR wrote it themselves. In its current form, it is compromised by phrases such as "extremely successful", etc. and needs a good copyediting with appropriate citations. It is littered with phrases such as "After 75 years of existence as a single store, Stein Mart's accelerated growth between 1977 and the 1997 could only be regarded as phenomenal." The same thing can be said for about any department store retailer. Tuxide 09:05, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:SteinMartLogo.png

[edit]

Image:SteinMartLogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

1997

[edit]

Re: According to Stein Mart's early 1997 10K report, the company planned to open between 26 and 28 stores in 1997, some in states new to the company, such as California, Nevada, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Did they? It's now 2008, so 1997 is now eleven years ago. Does anyone have newer information?Rockhopper10r (talk) 22:41, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This part of the article was what brought me to the talk page in the first place, so I looked into it. Per the store finder on their website, there are now locations in each of these states specified as (then) "new to the company," with almost twenty in California and a handful across the other three combined.76.240.198.7 (talk) 15:15, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is this an appropriate line?

[edit]

I feel the line, "It remains to be seen if Stein Mart will survive this current toxic atmosphere and if the company will once again be governed by sanity and reason and with appreciation for the long-time loyalty of its associates" is inappropriate; it seems to call into question the moral/mental qualitlies of the company. I do not feel that this is a line that belongs in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Louisvillejg (talkcontribs) 14:40, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV 2

[edit]

The last four paragraphs in the History section, starting with "Stein Mart continued it's expansion and brought in executives..." are false and sound as if they've been written by a disgruntled employee. I think it would benefit us all to keep this page professional, clean and accurate. There's no need to slam these people personally. I'd to take a bold step and update the history section with factual information from the company's website and with references to news articles and online industry resources since there seem to be few references here.
