What happened

[edit]

What happened to the original? The article doesn't say and that seems important. Was it destroyed in the fire? Papercrab (talk) 03:26, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly my question. I want to translate this article into Persian, but confused about what happened to the original. --AlmaBeta (talk) 06:23, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
A lot of the original sculpture at the Expo was made of Staff (building material) , that was never intended to be permanent. I am not sure about this work, but MacMonnies fountain and the rest just sort of turned to mush. I'll try and find out. Carptrash (talk) 15:35, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AlmaBeta: Margaret French Cresson, DCF's daughter, in her book about her father, Journey Into Fame (pp. 170-172) gives a fairly detailed discussion on the creation of the work, and it is made of staff, of which she says, "sturdy enough to weather an outdoor exposure for a year or more without disintegrating." @Carptrash: Thanks indeed. I ended up translating the article into Persian. I also corrected the Persian article about the material in which the original statue was made of. AlmaBeta (talk) 07:43, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well done, and I can't help wondering how "carptrash" translates into Persian? Carptrash (talk) 15:36, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
From what I understand, it translates to Persian: زبالهٔ کپور btw, there are some very delicious carps in the Persian Gulf :) AlmaBeta (talk) 05:29, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - also consider "carp" as a verb. Carptrash (talk) 14:56, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This probably good faith

"A third version of this statue was created and installed inside the Siegel-Cooper Company store in Manhattan".

And now I learn this; "the statue is now at Forest Lawn Cemetery." hmmm Carptrash (talk) 21:03, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
