Proposal

[edit]

I tried to edit this and it got changed straight back by someone named Utahraptor, so whats the point? Never edited before, probably wont ever attempt again. This is exactly why wikipedia is already showing signs of decay. This page reads like exploitation at the minute. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.168.235.123 (talk) 14:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I propose splitting this article. Standard Gravure should be about the company and its history, with "Main article: Standard Gravure shooting" followed by a short paragraph about the shooting. Standard Gravure shooting should focus on the shooting and subsequent trial in greater depth, with the usual in-text wikilink to Standard Gravure. I'm currently drafting an article about the trial. Sound reasonable? Tualha (Talk) 13:10, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I initially was putting them all on the same page because... company that's been defunct for 13 years, trial and incident that occured 16 years ago and a guy who's been dead for 16 years, not really known outside of Louisville I don't believe... just wasn't sure how much need there was for 4 articles. But if you want to move it all to seperate articles, that's fine with me, it is kind of awkward as is, just make sure they clearly link to eachother. --W.marsh 14:57, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If the company weren't notable I'd say reduce the details on it and focus on the shooting. However:
  • In operation for 70 years, and over 500 employees at peak - major, well known area employer.
  • We do have a fair number of details to work with.
  • Even more notable due to the incident of course.
  • The existence of WikiProject Louisville makes it more worthwhile.
Forgot to sign the above. I should add that the trial is quite notable because Eli Lilly and the plaintiffs made a secret settlement, tons of money in exchange for taking a dive on the case. Because it looked as though Lilly had won the case, big win for them in terms of publicity, continued acceptance of Prozac, and the subsequent cases. It took years to prove that there had even been a settlement. All very unprecedented (not to mention disgusting) from a legal standpoint, and not well known, so well worth a separate article.
