Searching for "seal-stamp" references in articles

[edit]

A search in English-Wikipedia today, 26-27 November 2008 can yield the following, by using the search engine: The phrase, (words:) 'seal stamp' results in 1231 Articles, from the search. In the first 2-pages, (40 items), the sequential term: seal stamp, or seal stamped, or stamp seal(s), (ed), appears more than 15 times, and certainly these are with some "medieval" or earlier).

In other words, there are numerous articles out there today, that refer to "stamp sealed" events in history. (From the HotSonoran DesertofArizona, USA).....Mmcannis (talk) 04:45, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This old but little-viewed article should be merged to the much fuller Seal (emblem). If no-one objects I will do so before long. I don't much like the "Seal (emblem)" title, but that can be looked at later. Johnbod (talk) 22:44, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It would be nice to clearly separate two meanings: (1) a device and (2) a mark made. The device comes in many forms, some of these devices (dies) are not called seals: stamp seal and cylinder seal, but amphora stamp, signaculum, etc. Therefore it might make sense to beef up this article instead and link to it in the very poorly named Seal (emblem). Impression seal definitely needs to be merged here. Викидим (talk) 18:09, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Survived

[edit]

The statement about seal mostly lost need clarification. While certainly true about some types (amphora stamp, where gadjillions of impressions and thousands of handles are accompanied by single-digit number of dies), plenty of stamp seals survived, see Minoan seal-stones. Deleting for now. Викидим (talk) 17:37, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
