Aztec?

Aztec descent? Is there any proof of this, or is it just another person trying to claim a heritage they probably don't have24.145.87.237 (talk) 23:51, 15 May 2009 (UTC) (sorry if it sounds bias)

I agree on the Aztec descent thing. The Aztecs as a group of people Are commonly refered to as aztec by the language they spoke and not because of race or heritage. Also you find a great many people of Mexican or Latin descent that call themselves Aztec in the same way a great many Americans say they are descended from Cherokee Chiefs or a Cherokee Princess. Besides she would likely have to trace her family history over 500 years back to prove that heritage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.194.200.21 (talk) 16:50, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

The Aztec bit is sourced; that is how things are supposed to work around here with information such as that. And, for some reason, she is noted as being Azetc all over the Internet; this is partly or rather mostly because so many Internet engines have copied each other, though. But since that type of copying is not always reliable, and mention of her being Aztec has been questioned before when adding it to this article, and it is not the best source due to not directly coming from Variety magazine, I will go ahead and remove the Aztec mention. Flyer22 (talk) 17:20, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Man I'll really think about because it's not like it the tabloids were pulling the information from it's Variety magazine. Also remember that plenty of fan made sites also copy from interview sources it's just the fact that is doesn't help when there is few or one reliable and dozens of unreliable ones that copy of each other.Mcelite (talk) 19:57, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

I think that Stacey's Mexican ethnicity should be re-added to this page. She just recently stated on the Wendy Williams Show (03/12/2010) that she is of African-American and Mexican ancestry. GIVE SOURCE for 'James Maby' marriage in infobox

If SD was married to James Maby, please give a source. Cali marriage license records, or divorce/annullment records. Please give a source. Thank You. 173.79.71.217 (talk) 15:11, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Dash is not divorced from Xureb yet so it should say (2007-2010 separated) in the infobox. 173.79.71.217 (talk) 15:22, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Please add this to her "personal life" section

Dash had son Austin in 1991 with R&B singer Christopher Williams (singer). She was met electrician Brian Lovell on the set of [[Clueless (TV series). They were married from 1999-2005. Dash had their daughter Lola in July 2003.

IF A SOURCE IS FOUND ADD THIS: She briefly married actor James Maby from 2005-2006.

In 2007 she married Seventh Day Surf Company designer Emmanuel Xureb [1]. At the end of January 2010, she filed a restraining order against Xureb citing physical violence/abuse [2][3]. 173.79.71.217 (talk) 15:36, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Stacey Dash defends her Romney/Ryan support

Her move into the political arena is making her more famous than her career in acting, by far. This needs a separate paragraph and some day soon, a separate Wikipedia article. If more in the Black community (especially in Hollywood) were supporting Romney/Ryan like Clint Eastwood is, she would not stand out so much. As it is, this could elect the next president by trimming down the 90% support of Democrats by the Black community. [1], “Do your homework. Look at your country. Think about the next four years of your life,” she said. — (quoting from the Blaze article.) She was interviewed on CNN by Piers Morgan. Think about it, Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 12:46, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Stacey Dash said that Romney's vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan called her to thank her for the endorsement and said that she was brave for speaking out. [2] quoted in UK Daily Mail, reporting on the CNN Piers Morgan interview, Sunday. — Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 13:03, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Recently, an IP removed the information about Dash having green eyes...but was reverted by editor Mcelite.

As I just stated to that IP: I am thinking that mentioning that her eyes are green is relevant because they are a part of her physical attractiveness, as reported by many reliable sources about aspects people find attractive about her; it is not every day that you see an African American with natural green eyes (unless the person with green eyes is your close relative or close friend), and there is currently no picture in her article to show what she looks like. Flyer22 (talk) 03:02, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

I just saw the edit as someone getting mad that's she multiracial. That's my only guess because they specifically targeted that statement.Mcelite (talk) 00:56, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
So where's the best picture for the article? Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 13:56, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
From the films, it always looked like she had blue eyes. Images sometimes are false because of ambient light and colour corrections performed by the image processing software when doing photographs with dark skinned persons. I had many funny results with that already. 87.166.160.72 (talk) 16:25, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
They mostly look green to me in films, but green, blue and hazel eyes can appear to be one or the other due to lighting and the color of the clothing worn. No matter how they appear, her eyes are confirmed as green (including by Dash's comments on the matter). Flyer22 (talk) 16:31, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
Note: I also tweaked my initial comment above, though it's from years ago. Flyer22 (talk) 16:40, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

playboy images

The german version of the wiki article says, that she undresed twice for the playboy magazine, latest in 2012. Any information on that? Also the site shows another date of birth in 1966. 87.166.160.72 (talk) 16:22, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Unless the German Wikipedia has a reliable source to support that claim, it's likely wrong. But if no reliable English source can be found to support that claim, it's certainly wrong. As you can see, this article, the English version, only mentions that she posed for Playboy in 2006. Flyer22 (talk) 17:37, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Playboy at 40

I just checked my August 2006 copy of Playboy and it doesn't mention anything about Dash's age. Whether it was 40 at the time or anything else. Just the usual 'She was in Clueless and she's still a stunner' sort of stuff. Dismas|(talk) 13:06, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me and anyone else reading this section know that, Dismas. This editor (also known as this editor) probably was not trying to state that Playboy notes her age, but was rather simply trying to state that Dash was 40 at the time. Whatever the case, I kept reverting that editor because a WP:Reliable source is needed for the birth date aspect and the "age 40 while posing for Playboy" matter that the editor kept adding. We also need a WP:Reliable source for her birth date that is currently in the article. Flyer22 (talk) 13:51, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
I noted at my talk page that Googling "Stacey Dash 40 Playboy" pulls up some poor sources. From that search, on page 2, I came across this playboyceleb.com source that states that Dash was 40 at the time she posed for Playboy, and it shows the pictures from that Playboy spread. Is playboyceleb.com associated with Playboy? That site makes it seem like it is. I also went to Google Images to see what they show on this matter (making sure to keep the 40 number in there). A little after Dash posed for Playboy, I remember reading or hearing (or both) that she was 40 at the time. But, again, a WP:Reliable source is needed to state that she was. • This whole entry reads like her agent wrote it. This needs some serious work. Neutrality would be a good thing here.

im so wrong

I don't see bias here on the scale that's being implied ("the whole entry reads like her agent wrote it"). The only vaguely non-neutral bit I see in the article is the comment that Dash in Clueless "carried off the role quite well." Derekfnord 20:00, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

I made significant changes. I added factual movie credits from IMDB and deleted subjective wording. This article was written with 2006 as the last career update. I updated her career to include what she is currently filming for 2008.(TroyStewart 14:57, 31 August 2007 (UTC))

No support in black community

It would be interesting to note that Ms. Dash receives no support in black community. Well let's put it this way of all my black friends that I interact with each year 99% of them do not support her. Thus, it's something to note when she is put on tv as a spokesperson for the black community. And she has a right to her opinion, just as long as the majority community realizes that the community they think she is speaking for, doesn't want her to speak for them. And I agree that the tone of the article is very one-sided, as though her agent or publicist wrote the article. Transparency please. --2604:2000:DDD1:4900:E008:5F27:9E76:6C30 (talk) 14:20, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

response to endorsement of Romney endorsement

It's been noted by several reliable sources that Dash received criticism from her twitter followers following her endorsement of Romney. I'm inclined not to include this because it likely violates WP:BLP and WP:N. But I also see it as quite notable in the aspect of the social state of the US. What does everyone think? It's there now, however. CRRaysHead90 | Get Some! 21:45, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Whatever. People will get bent out of shape about the issue, whether it's included, or whether it's excluded . I recommend anyone wishing to maintain their sanity to avoid the issue, because it truly is meaningless and this article really is simply about an entertainer and not about nuclear physics or philosophy or anything actually important. So my advice is to stand back, for tis the season to fly off the handle at the slightest provocation, for the partisans are howling at the moon, and the moon will be full for at least the next 28 days. Marteau (talk) 06:45, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
I strongly disagree. She becomes a hero to Conservatives (most of the silent majority in America) and makes her much more famous than before. We could wait and see future developments, or note it now. Here is a positive article: [4] The endorsement is more important than the response! Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 13:52, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
This doesn't belong in the article: it's a phony contriversy based on two or three anonymous tweets. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 17:58, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
No one was waiting to see whose side Stacey Dash was on before making up their own mind which candidate to vote for. She is not an especially famous actress and she has not been known for her political activism in the past. This incident is newsworthy only because she is black, and no one would have noticed her tweet if FoxNews had not ginned up a story out of two or three hostile anonymous tweets. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 19:55, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
The article is pretty one-sided. Hiding the fact that many of her twitter followers gave her a negative critique for her political positions. The article reads as though all black people, all twitter followers are in agreement with her. She's being built up beyond her existing support, thus the article often reads like a public relations piece for her and not as objective, transparent journalism. --2604:2000:DDD1:4900:E008:5F27:9E76:6C30 (talk) 14:24, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Patheos

I'm beginning a discussion regarding an edit that another editor is edit-warring about, in hopes that the issue can be discussed as per WP:BRD. The edit is that "Dash's blog is hosted by Patheos" — followed by three cites, which seems like WP:OVERCITING. I don't believe there is any encyclopedic value in who hosts her blog, and this seems completely promotional for Patheos. Would we promote WordPress in this way? --Tenebrae (talk) 18:55, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

The cite linking to her blog is fine, of course, presuming it's not already somewhere else. Of the other two cites, one says "Patheos, a website focused on religion" and the other, The Hollywood Reporter, just says, "her Patheos-hosted blog," which the cite linking to her blog already verifies, rendering it reundant. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:58, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
(ec) But Patheos is very different to WordPress, as the WP article indicates. And if someone's blog was at WordPress you would not find that mentioned in secondary sources, whereas we do see statements like "Dash wrote on Patheos, a website focused on religion". (Indeed, the fact that there is a quasi-religious quality to her writing is highly significant!) StAnselm (talk) 19:01, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure why a religious website is any more significant than a blog being on a sports website or a comic-book website. But how about this compromise: "Dash writes a blog for Patheos.com" with the first link to it that you already had. Plain data, no assertion of POV significance. What do you think? --Tenebrae (talk) 19:04, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
OK - thanks. I'm happy with that. StAnselm (talk) 20:11, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Re green eyes, you don't think that's racist to say, that green eyes makes her more attractive? Carry that idea forward to skin color, etc and we get some very bigoted thoughts and postings. Humanity should not judge people by eye color, skin color, hair texture but by the content of his/her character. --2604:2000:DDD1:4900:E008:5F27:9E76:6C30 (talk) 14:22, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Nowhere did I state in the previous section about her eyes that her "green eyes makes her more attractive." I stated that "her eyes are green is relevant because they are a part of her physical attractiveness, as reported by many reliable sources about aspects people find attractive about her." That was years ago, though, when I was a less experienced Wikipedian, and I no longer see a need to mention her eyes, especially since we now have images of her in the article. If she had an "Appearance" section like Angelina Jolie does, then maybe. If one chooses to believe that her eyes are contacts simply because she's African American, they need to educate themselves. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 02:30, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Romney section

RE: "... Dash stated it was her opinion and that she did not understand vitriol." How is someone saying, "I'm entitled to my opinion" notable in any way? How is someone saying, "I don't understand why people disagree with me" notable in any way. Publicly endorsing Romney after voting for Clinton seems a pertinent fact. But people on Twitter disagree with celebrities all the time. How is that noteworthy? --Tenebrae (talk) 00:12, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Tenebrae, regarding this and this, the sources are specifically focused on the vitriol she received for supporting Romney. It's the only reason her support of Romney got media attention. The media felt that it was noteworthy. Caitlyn Jenner has also received a lot of criticism for her political views, especially from the LGBT community (and I've been meaning to add the LGBT criticism in this regard to that article). With Jenner, the following quote is currently included in that article: "I have gotten more flak for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans." With Dash, all we have so far are the statements about her being shocked by the vitriol she received for her political views. It was not simply disagreement; it was brutal harassment that a number of media sources reported on. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 00:30, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

"political candidate" in the first sentence of the lede

I think we should restore "political candidate" in the first sentence of the lede. I don't see why it would be undue. It's her current occupation. User:Flyer22 Reborn: Why do you think it's undue please?Zigzig20s (talk) 20:49, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

Zigzig20s, I stated that it is WP:Undue weight since you placed it first when she is primarily known as an actress. But as a compromise, I did add it to the end of the first sentence. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 21:07, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Good compromise, though I moved "American" to the beginning of the sentence, as she is an American everything, not just an American political candidate...I also added "Republican".Zigzig20s (talk) 21:23, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

Views on Charlottesville

User:Tenebrae: You removed:

There are multiple sources we could cite, like this or this. I think it should appear in the article. In the edit summary, you wrote "why that and not her opinion on other things regarding Trump?". Yes, we could add her other views on the president, as long as that's covered by reliable third-party sources.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:16, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

We can't include every single thing she's said about President Trump, and it's tangential in any case. If she had worked for him or had other direct dealings with him, that might be different. But lots of people without such connections have opinions about President Trump and we don't include them in their Wikipedia . So I'm unclear why we would include hers.--Tenebrae (talk) 22:43, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Because of weight of RS. And because she is a minority candidate running in a minority district--this is not off topic.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:55, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Being a minority candidate running in (and I'm not sure what you mean by this) minority district has nothing to do with her opinions about Trump or Charlottesville. She's not running in Charlottesville. It's completely off topic.--Tenebrae (talk) 00:05, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
I don't think we should censor black voices about black-centric issues like Charlottesville. It was deemed noteworthy by the journalist who asked her the question, and all the newspapers who published articles about it. Note that I added it to the Unite the Right article and it was removed there too. I find that very disturbing.Zigzig20s (talk) 00:38, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
No one's censoring anything, and Charlottesville was not "black-centric" but anti-Semitic. They were shouting, "The Jews will not replace us," not "The blacks will not replace us." Stacey Dash has no connection to Charlottesville and we don't put every opinion some celebrity utters that gets press.--Tenebrae (talk) 00:42, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
She's a political candidate now, not a "celebrity." And I thought Charlottesville was about the Confederacy and slavery? Dash probably descends from slaves--I think we should let her speak.Zigzig20s (talk) 00:48, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Hundreds of people in the U.S. are political candidates at any given time. That doesn't make every opinion they state noteworthy. This is not a forum for a laundry list of Stacey Dash's every political opinion. And given that she's actively running, this insistence on including all her opinions and turning this article into a campaign page seems like non-neutral political advocacy.--Tenebrae (talk) 00:53, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Sources differ as to her birth date

Fox News says early 1967, without specifying a day. The aggregator FilmReference.com says January 20, 1966. It's not unusual that celebrities might fudge their birth dates. See Mariah Carey, Mick Mars, and Li'l Kim. --Tenebrae (talk)

The standard reference AllMovie.com also gives January 20, 1966. Putting outlier claim of 1967 in a footnote so that this date gets included as well. --Tenebrae (talk)

@Tenebrae: I think this was a bad decision, at least from your current sources. AllMovie vital info are user updated (not to be confused with the biographies that are staff written) and Film Reference is not considered a reliable source per countless RSN discussions. Since Dash official twitter says 1967, I think the article should probably say that too, the current sources for 1966 are super thin. Beerest 2 Talk page 00:53, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

I didn't know AllMovie vital info is user-generated, so I'll start removing that when I edit. I haven't seen anything about FilmReference.com, which is simply an aggregator, being unreliable. And Dash's official Twitter is problematic since it's a primary source and since celebrities sometimes fudge their ages.--Tenebrae (talk) 16:31, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
To cover the range and avoid a POV choice, I've added the WP:PRIMARY Twitter claim. Both reported birth years are now in. --Tenebrae (talk) 16:47, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Tenebrae, you had 1967 as her birth date, correct? What made you choose that instead of 1966? I'm asking because of an IP edit and me reverting the IP and then reverting myself. Also, the Twitter link currently does not show a page with her confirming her birth year. It just shows her page in general. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 16:42, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

@Flyer22 Reborn: Wow, thanks for catching that! I did have both dates in my March 2016 edit [5] and I guess I simply missed that an editor had made this WP:BLP-vio edit about a month later [6]. I'm restoring the non-POV edit, since her self-reported WP:PRIMARY-cite birth date does not agree with the WP:SECONDARY source, FilmReference.com. (She does give her birth date on her Twitter main page, in the left-hand column under her name and other biographical information). Again, thanks for catching this long-unnoticed BLP vio. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:05, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Anastrophe, regarding this, see what is stated above by Tenebrae. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 18:48, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

That's fine, the main reason I dug into it was the broken/bare <ref> tag in article space. For a BLP, a primary source isn't adequate for birthdate, when there are only weak secondary refs stating otherwise? Anastrophe (talk) 19:26, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
Anastrophe, primary sources in cases like this can be fine, but I've haven't been sure what to do in this case. Stuff like this and this recent edit by an IP is why we had both birth dates in the lead. As for the Twitter source, it doesn't point to the post; we need it to point to the post unless that post was deleted (I haven't checked). Tenebrae and Musdan77, any thoughts? Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 21:04, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
There was a single informal conversation in 2009/2010 about Film Reference.com that I could find at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film/Resources, and not an RfC or any other formal consensus that warrants the note at Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Resources. It's an aggregator that cites its sources, no different from Rotten Tomatoes, and in fact it's often the only resource that lists discrepancies in birth dates, giving both when its cited sources differ. That meticulousness alone should make it reliable for birth dates. I'd certainly trust it more than a celebrity's WP:PRIMARY claim, given how celebrities are wont to shave a year or two off their ages. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:47, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Tenebrae, I just reverted Vidal 1077 on some poor sources and WP:Citation overkill. But the editor might revert me. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 23:40, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

A dynamic anon IP is edit-warring to insert a WP:BLP vio, namely removing a birth date that multiple sources including the book Encyclopedia of African American Actresses in Film and Television supports. I ask that IP to cease edit-warring and discuss his issue on this talk page as per WP:BRD --Tenebrae (talk) 21:40, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Dash's 4th new marriage

{{BLP noticeboard}} Hello editors or administrators, Stacey Dash is married to her 4th husband Jeffrey Marty, a lawyer from Florida since April 6, 2018 and this article is outdated. I wonder if anybody has a citation source on that? Her 4th marriage Jeffrey Marty will be located under "Personal life". I discover her 4th marriage detail at IMDb. Now I ask all regular editors or administrators to add her 4th marriage to Jeffrey Marty under the "Personal life" subsection with a citation. Before her April 6 marriage to Jeffrey Marty. She met Marty 10 days before her marriage date. On April 6, 2018, she got married and Jeffrey Marty will be the stepfather to Stacey Dash's two children. It has to be on any news website, no Daily Mail, nor IMDb nor any tabloid website first Google search "Stacey Dash Jeffrey Mary married 2018". I hope her 4th marriage to Jeffrey Marty since April 2018 will be added under "Personal life" article. I will be assist anyone who has citation source that would be great. Thanks for your consideration. 2001:569:7C07:2600:C0D9:9F4D:1B9:8FE2 (talk) 04:15, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
