Sourcing of this article

[edit]

In the light of the RFC concerning Daily Mail sourcing, I have raised the requirements for this article at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 221#Material sourced to Daily Mail in "St Paul's Survives". Thincat (talk) 09:22, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure why this would even be an issue. The DM has its problems, but it's not the Weekly World News. Are you suggesting the photo was fabricated, given it was taken from the DM building itself, by a DM photographer?--Auric talk 21:27, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No. The RFC was closed with rationale including "Consensus has determined that the Daily Mail (including its online version, dailymail.co.uk) is generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is to be generally prohibited, especially when other more reliable sources exist. As a result, the Daily Mail should not be used for determining notability, nor should it be used as a source in articles." so I wanted an assessment of the referencing in this case. The "St Paul's" discussion is archived at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 221#Material sourced to Daily Mail in "St Paul's Survives". The RFC was a silliness but it looks as if little harm will be done. Thincat (talk) 09:22, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stamp

[edit]

Copied from Talk:Delivery After Raid where I misposted it -

When Churchill died there were a flurry of stamps issued across the world. The Royal Mail used the Karsh portrait (ref) but I turned up an intriguing reference that "The Crown Agents for the Colonies omnibus issue of Churchhill showing St Paul's and searchlights in the background is taken from a war time photograph by Fox Photos". Digging into it, it seems that it is probably commons:File:Stamp of Gibraltar - 1966 - Colnect 203 - 1 - Winston Churchill.jpeg and the source is likely to be something like this photo, but commons:File:Stamp of Ajman - 1966 - Colnect 593098 - Winston Spencer Churchill and London City with St Pauls.jpeg looks very like [this] photo. Worth noting for a future legacy section, maybe? Andrew Gray (talk) 13:38, 18 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
