Page history note

[edit]

Some of the edits of this talk page were merged into Talk:St Helens, Merseyside, and the first two edits reflect that. They cannot be history merged because the histories would overlap. Graham87 13:37, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Move

[edit]

The page should be moved to non-abbreviated "Saint" but that is currently blocked. One editor was confused by the meaning of "St" / "St." and presumably would prefer to discuss all the variations of the name in the lede, but that's unwieldy. Compromised with a note, but it should go without saying that "Saint", "St.", and "St" are completely interchangeable in English use.

If he thought that the page does not discuss "St." or "Saint" but only "St", a quick read of the actual contents of the page should have disabused him of this notion.

Remember not to be WP:POINTy and disrupt the Wiki, removing relevant information (in this case, the meaning of the name or its alternate forms apart from the British abbreviation "St Helens") for no good reason. — LlywelynII 01:08, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but this isn't an article, it's a disambiguation page. All it should contain is links to the pages readers are looking for. The etymology belongs in another article, not here. Please read MOS:DAB. -- Dr Greg  talk  01:26, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Quite so. It's a minor article to be sure, but see, particularly, MOS:DABINT#Introductory_line and WP:PRESERVE and stop blanking valid helpful content. — LlywelynII 09:09, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
