Guild of Copy Editors cleanup
[edit]I am handling the copy edit for this article. As I read through the article, I will make minor changes to it directly. I will list lots of other suggestions here on the "Talk" page. Feel free to comment on any suggestion or to ignore any suggestion.
You can also (slowly and carefully) make changes to the article based upon a suggestion while I am still copy editing (approximately 3-4 days to complete). --LukasMatt (talk) 22:41, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
The Fundamental Problem
[edit]This article has an identity crisis. Its title says "Sriperumbudur". The first sentence of its lead paragraph says "Sriperumbudur is a city". However, a large portion of the article concerns "Sriperumbudur taluk".
Unfortunately, an article about "Sriperumbudur taluk" already exists.
Somebody (an expert from the WikiProject India) needs to make a decision about the two articles "Sriperumbudur" and "Sriperumbudur taluk".
My suggestion:
- keep both articles
- move anything not directly related to the village "Sriperumbudur" from the "Sriperumbudur" article to the "Sriperumbudur taluk" article
- when the "Sriperumbudur taluk" article contains too much information about a specific village, create a new article about the village

For the "subdivision_name" parameter, why is the flagu template used? In the entire article, there is no direct wikilink to the article "India". Why not use flag instead? Problems with "population_total" and "population_as_of" parameters:
"population_rank" parameter:
Problems with "website" parameter:

- Reason: It is outdated and not necessary because many wikilinks exist to support this section.

Demographics
[edit]Removed the entire section
2001 India census, Sriperumbudur had a population of 86,085. Males make up 50% of the population and females 50%. Sriperumbudur has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 64%. In Sriperumbudur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
- Reasons:
- The most recent census was conducted in 2011. The Infobox has population figures from 2008. Therefore, the 2001 statistics in this section are outdated. (Before providing numbers for this section, see the "Talk" section above "The Fundamental Problem".)
- According to Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian cities#Demographics, the "Demographics" section is "Very Important", but not compulsory
Culture
[edit]Removed
It is believed that if a person drinks of Sri Ramanujacharya's milk as abhisheka, all ailments will be cured. Followers of Sri Ramanuja, known as Sri Vaishnava, also believe that the worldly birth and death cycle can be overcome by letting an acharya or divine guide imprint the shamashrayana symbols (Panchajanya)on the shoulders of the faithful.
- Reason: While interesting, this article concerns Sriperumbudur primarily and, in this case, "Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple and the birthplace of Saint Ramanuja" secondarily. The removed information is better included in the article "Ramanuja" or the article "Vaishnavism".
