Note on other language names
[edit]Please note that the names of the other languages should be given both in their own versions, as well as in Sḵwxwú7mesh snichim, and the distinction made clear in the text; their Sḵwxwú7mesh snichim names are only incidental by way of interest; their primary names are "more important" and of course will be where their destination links are meant to go.....Skookum1 19:34, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Alphabet or Orthography
[edit]ResolvedI think this is important but thought I would add sometime soon. I don't know the IPA's letters for each of these, but I noticed that other language pages also used these so if there are any linguists who watch this page, you can do what ever you want with these. Maybe one day we can add soundbites for of the letters? Either way, here ya'll go. OldManRivers (talk) 08:18, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- OR I can actually look at the page and see it's already there. lol OldManRivers (talk) 08:20, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Sḵwx̱wú7mesh language → Squamish language — Squamish is much more common in the real world than the name with the 7. Rename as per WP:COMMONNAME. Additionally, Squamish is also more common in linguistic circles as well e.g. http://multitree.linguistlist.org/trees/14687@575724. Google hits are also 1000:1 in favour of Squamish. commons image of roadsign in Skwxwu7mesh snichim
[edit]Happened to find this today in the Squamish category on the Commons (NB that category is for the town, not the people) File:Bilingual_road_sign_in_squamish_language_1.jpg. Figure it could illustrate this article; it gives the accepted names for Vancouver and the site of the town of Squamish; Kumkumalay, as it's usually spelled, is the old name for the area of the Hastings Mill, I guess it can be used for the whole city.Skookum1 (talk) 08:46, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

- I added information about reduplication, which is part of the grammar section of the Squamish language. This means that I included a citiation for my source in the bibliography/sources section. Nataliawrobel3 (talk) 21:06, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- I added information about the history of the language in terms of where it was developed all over the world. The language was initially made in one country, but the grammar and spelling system were in different places. Also, I added information about how it compares to other languages. - Based on the peer review feedback, I'm planning on adding more information on the background and origin of the Squamish Language. Also planning an appropriate way to incorporate the information currently in our sandbox to be put into the live article. Another portion that is being worked on is slightly changing the re-organization of some portions and citations of some un-cited sentences. SonaniVandan (talk) 21:13, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- I added some information on the origin of the Squamish Language, along with a picture to visually help. I also added some hyperlinks to similar wikipedia articles to help readers understand some words they may not know. SonaniVandan (talk) 21:07, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Having looked at the peer reviewers' suggestions, I plan to touch up the articles in places needing of citations. I can't guaranteed that I'll find the correct sources or the sources used by those that wrote the sentences. In case I can't do much regarding citations, I also plan to rewrite sentences to increase intelligibility and conciseness. MystifiedMysti (talk) 18:07, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Based on the suggestions provided from the peer reviews, I would like to include more information about the origin of the language if possible. Additionally, I will try to make the structure of the article draft more concise so that the order makes more sense and allows to information added to flow more naturally. Lastly, I would like to add more citations to the information already provided in the original article, if possible. Nataliawrobel3 (talk) 21:10, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for detailed reviews on the article. After reading them a couple of times, I will conduct more research on the history of the language as long as I can detect it. The organization of the information is something that I take pride in, and so improving readability for the article is something I would like to do as well. The difficulty lies in finding more information about the structure of the language due to the low amount of history online. Omaralattar23 (talk) 20:38, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
