What actually is the topic here?

A "spiropyran" is a nice functional group or structural core. But this article defines one specific compound (not a class) in the intro paragraph and then later contradicts that by giving other compounds. And all of the compounds mentioned are only specific variations--editors are confusing the attached aromatic rings or other features that impart certain chemical/physical/optical properties with the stated "spiropyran" topic.
