Comments on the blatant fakery of "self-proclaimed speechwriters" in Japan

[edit]

Some Japanese public speaking coaches are making strange claims. Namely, they say "Speechwriters are in the business of teaching people how to speak." Furthermore. "Sometimes they don't write. They say things like, "Speechwriters are in the business of teaching how to speak. Furthermore, some novels that purport to be "about speechwriters" are based on the above falsified facts.

The above claims are clearly wrong. As for the concrete evidence for this, the Japanese version of Wikipedia provides three points in its entry on speechwriters.

The points are as follows

⒈"Twitter list of businesspeople claiming to be speechwriters (326 people)" and "Twitter list of businesspeople claiming to be public speaking coaches (238 people)". Ignoring the fact that there are people who so clearly specialize in these fields and blurring the borders between the two professions is a blatant manipulation of information.

2. the English version of Wikipedia makes no mention of the "trainer-like skills required for speechwriters" as indicated above.

3. There is an encyclopedia curation service in Japan called "Japan Knowledge. In the search for "speechwriter" in the encyclopedia, there is no mention of "speechwriters need trainer-like skills". None of the five encyclopedias cited mention such a thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonhson.MM (talkcontribs) 22:34, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

William McGrun: Recently?

[edit]

William McGurn became Bush Jr's speechwriter in 2006. That's hardly "recently". Furthermore, he resigned in February, 2008; I have no idea who replaced him. DES (talk) 12:45, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obama's speechwriter, Jon Favreau, is not the actor Jon Favreau, so the link to the actor's wikipage needs to be removed. Here's a Newsweek article about the speechwriter: http://www.newsweek.com/id/84756 75.144.58.125 (talk) 20:59, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sort presidential speechwriters by president rather than alphabetical?

[edit]

right now the list is too convoluted and hard to read, people will probably want to know who wrote for which presidents, so that grouping would make more sense, since its also chronological. --jonas (talk) 00:56, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
