Marques de Leon
[edit]This isn't just a really low-grade wine, it's a brand name and my first instinct was to suggest marking the article wp:prod. Having thought about it, however, it might be good to refer to vino de mesa in more concrete terms. If we can get a pic and a little more enc info about it, I'd be ok about including it. mikaul 09:14, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

- Oppose merge. --BodegasAmbite 08:50, 23 October 2007 (UTC) I don't see why this wine should be mentioned at all in a general article such as "Spanish Wine". If any specific wine is to be mentioned, then there are plenty of other more suitable or representative wines that could be included. --BodegasAmbite 08:50, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Vinos de Tierra
[edit]The section on VdT needs to be brushed up, following some well-informed edits (it turns out!) re Cataunya DO wines. The source for my removal of Navarra, as well as Catalunya, is the Spanish ministry of Agriculture (MAPA), specifically this page. There are some, like Canarias, which might merit inclusion, but I'm not clear which, if any, of the others should also be added in. mikaultalk 01:16, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- In Spanish wine regions it can be checked out which autonomous communities have VdlT wines. In Navarra there is one VdlT wine. There are two types of VdlT: small regions like DO but labeled as VdlT, and regional ones of a province or community. In the case of Catalunya (DO) it is a regional one, but labeled as DO, overlapped with the others catalan DO, just like cava DO and some french AOC. --Vriullop 10:28, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- Like Catalunya, the VdT stated on that page is not really "in" Navarra, it is overlapped or shared by Aragon. This mention is fine for the regions page, but not for here. The section here only mentions notable VdT regions, so I removed it. Thanks for the clarification of the two types, I was not aware of the distinction. Fins aviat! mikaultalk 12:07, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Thoughts on getting this up to a B
[edit]Here are my thoughts on what could help get this article up to a B class-
- Referencing. Major need throughout the article.
- The history section is a bit thin. There is probably enough fodder to warrant a separate History of Spanish wine article but at least this section should provide more of a summary.
- Wine regions. Currently we really just have a listing. At the very least there should be some summary style on the major regions.
- Geography and climate-Certainly needs some expansion, talks about the major rivers & landmass that influences the climate of different regions. Overview of soils.
- Grape variety/viticulture/winemaking sections. Could possible be combined in some regards, depending on how much of its is unique to Spanish wines.
- Any details on Wine culture, especially the relation to Spanish cuisine. AgneCheese/Wine 01:12, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Salty taste
[edit]"The sea air leads the Sherry to develop a salty taste."
Is this really so? If the concentration of salt in the ground reached a level where it got through to the grapes, I'd have thought it would make viticulture impossible. Vines generally seem to like a slightly limey soil. Sounds like one of those fanciful notions that persists because it's unchallenged. But I'd be happy to be proved wrong. Drinking Customs
[edit]Does Spain have any religion or drinking traditions on wines? If so, what? Can you please include this in the article so people can fully understand? Thank you so much. Hedyhyry (talk) 05:31, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
