This article is extremely biased against Spaniards, and very poorly written and researched. It talks about Latin American rather that about Spaniard. It also is very misleading concerning Spanish language maintenance across generations. Contrary to what it asserts, proficiency of Spanish in successive generations, it is consistently, across countries and continents, much more higher, among Spaniards who are immigrants than among Latin American immigrants. It seems that the latter tend to discourage bilingualism and billiteracy. According to the data available, the Latin American school graduation rate for second generation Latin American, in most immigrant contexts, is very low, and only 8% speak fluently Spanish and less than 1% can write it. The article does not even mention the census data about Spaniards in Canada with EU passport: only about 17,000, truly far from 300,000 as it claims. It would be appropriate to check and update your information with the Embassy.
In the last 70 years was there any refugees from Spain, and if so what was the reason.
