Temperature

[edit]

Can you please clarify the nature of the rising Spring temperatures (daily average, daily max) that induce egg hatch? Also, it may be worth checking the original work by Li et al. claiming that decreasing temperatures increase development (rate?) and reduce generation time. This can only happen if 1) they defy the laws of thermodynamics, or 2) reduce their individual size as temperatures drop. Both seem unlikely. Seems more likely that we have a case of citation cancer, with something lost in translation from the original Chinese. Darren Kriticos (talk) 02:47, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good catch. The original Annals of the ESA article it appears to be cited from says generation time decreases with decreasing temperature, so it looks like whoever put the edit in had it wrong. I can't find a source specifically mentioning anything like a lower threshold for egg hatch specifically, but a general one of 8.6 C. I haven't looked over this article yet, so I tagged the statement for now and I'll look for a better source or wording and look over the rest of the article too for other issues.
