From vanderbilt television,1973 Major General Sosthène Fernandez, top Cambodian soldier doesn't want Thailand or South Vietnam to help cambodia with bomb support. As commander in chief of the F.A.N.K, he wanted to fight the red khmers and to make peace to his citizens and freedom in Cambodia.

I think this article needs more details and some citations to show this person's importance, etc.

I don't think unless someone puts a whole lot more work into this article, its not justified.General Fernandez was a military official in Cambodia. Everything in the article is covered by multiple other articles. At best General Fernandez deserves a mention in the Cambodia history articles covering 1970-1975. I think if someone put this up for Afd, it would be a good thing. 168.127.0.51 18:15, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree that this article needs a lot mroe content and citations, I do not think it needs to be deleted. The beauty of Wikipedia is that, thanks to the efforts of several people from around the world this article is likely to get progressively better. -- Thaths 15:42, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV about subject's importance

[edit]

Can someone explain to me why the statement "General Sosthène Fernandez was undoubtedly the most popular figure of Cambodia's war agaisnt the red khmer" is not POV? I keep removing it and it keeps being added back again. I consider this statement to be POV because:

  • How is 'most popular' to be measured? What evidence exists that the subject of this article is, indeed, 'most popular'?
  • 'Undoubtedly'? In whose opinion?
  • Obviously, the subject has some importance, though there are very few links to this article from other wikipedia pages. That is why subject has a wiki entry. To add overly elevating POV notions about the subject does not, in any way, add any substance to the article.

Edit wars over nationality

[edit]

Having checked several of my own books - I can now provide sources to show Fernandez was of EITHER Khmer OR Vietnamese descent. So it looks as though the jury is out on his nationality unless someone can get hold of the book her supposedly wrote. So how about we discuss the issue here instead of editing wars and user page insults? Paxse 17:21, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:PONIEV is not willing to negotiate, despite me having sent a message to him, and he has ignored them all. And my citation is an article of TIME magazine, which passes the criteria for Wikipedia:Reliable sources. If Poniev is willing to discuss, all of us are willing to work it out. Mr Tan 07:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or otherwise, you might want to show these two sources, stating with a paragraph saying "some sources show that Fernandez is Khmer-Filipino while other sources stated that he is viet-filipino" or something like that with proper cited sources. If otherwise, edits like those of Poniev with no proper sources will not be tolerated. Mr Tan 07:25, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is the best solution. Wikipedia is running very slowly and with many errors in my part of the world this evening (it took 10 minutes and several attempts to load this window) So please be patient and I'll add a second ref and a revised nationality in the next 24 hours. Cheers, Paxse 16:27, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good. But what if it is reverted? You know that Poniev is not-talkable and he is capable of anything. We shall see, step by step...When I went to Wikipedia:Requests for protection (check its archive for this article's request) User:Alison, an admin suggests that Poniev's case can be made as a vandalism case...Mr Tan 10:03, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The recent attempt by Fanmuong seems to be another in a series of moves to erase not only important questions about the subject of this wikipedia article, but also the fact that there is an ongoing discussion about these questions. -- Thaths (talk) 15:30, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
