Does anyone know why she writes under both her real name and a pseudonym? (And can anyone source that Madeleine = Sophie? Not that I doubt it so much as I'd like to read it.) Melissa Della 19:25, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've answered my own question from the Barnes & Noble page which says, 'In an interview with her publisher, Kinsella reveals her true identity: "My secret is out! That's right, I'm really Madeleine Wickham. In fact I've written several books under that name. But when I had the idea for the first Shopaholic book, I knew I wanted it to be really different. So in order not to confuse my British audience, I took a pseudonym. Of course, I had no idea that Sophie would become so huge!"' Unfortunately, there's no link to the actual interview.
'Madeleine' Wickham would also I suspect, allow people to judge the author by assumed age and class. Sophie is a more popular name for young women in the UK, whereas 'Madeleine' is a very 'posh' or old-fashioned name. (Not dissing her by saying this, I'm a great fan.)Merkinsmum 04:37, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Influences??

[edit]

Something about the influences doesn't sound very professional and academic. Perhaps it could be reworded, or just removed completely? Xylogirl07 (talk) 15:34, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Madeleine WickhamSophie Kinsella – As per wp:Commonname - this is by far and away the more popular name. Those books originally published under her birthname are now also published under her far more successful penname. Nikthestoned 14:17, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
