smith had to teach pat boone how to clap on two on four before an ed sullivan appearence==boone only knew how to clap on one and three like most novice people=== smith leaned over and could not get back up about two hours before one ed sullivan show==they had to rush in a sub at the last minute== he was a hard drinking shot and a beer guy with as foul a mouth as anyone on earth== he was adopted, lived in poverty up in the katskill montains, and shared the mountain with one other family ---a black family== he had hooping cough as a child== and then he found himself, after not finishing highschool, in nycities music scene===he slept on park benches and played with the paul whitemen band===smith fell off the bandstand once and broke his arm and the show was so rough that they could not find another drummer and smith had to play the job with a broken arm==== he turned down the new york phil====he had been offered first snare drum but the job did not pay that much. he toured with the russian circus when their drummer became sick=== —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.146.25.183 (talk) 14:53, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
