Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (your reason here) --Eric601219 (talk) 03:22, 14 December 2017 (UTC) It is for a project so please delete it after January 1st[reply]

Hello. Decisions on whether or when to delete articles here aren't contingent on the needs of the people who created them, as Wikipedia isn't a publication service. If your project calls for you to write a biography and post it where it can be read by others, Wikipedia isn't the place for that, unless the project is to create a Wikipedia article. But any project to create Wikipedia articles should be designed to take into account that those articles will, once posted, be appraised and subject to revision, tagging for shortcomings, discussion, or deletion on the same terms as all articles.
The problem here is that the article gives no indication that Sonny Chua is of significance, no suggestion as to why one might think there'd be an article about him in an encyclopedia. All I gather from it is that he's a guy who composes music. The article doesn't even begin by saying who he is. You don't really say until the second sentence of the second paragraph. (Even if an article makes a credible claim of significance, the subject as to actually meet the notability guidelines, or else, even though it won't qualify for speedy deletion, it may deleted after a discussion depending on whether there's a consensus for it. See WP:Your first article, as well as WP:Lead section, for guidance. Largoplazo (talk) 04:24, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Eric601219, Largoplazo is correct - the article cannot be kept because of the assignment. However as you and Davidyim have a copy at Draft:Sonny Chua, you would still have a copy to work on improving if this is deleted here. Until this is deleted officially though, I recommend that you look to find the needed sourcing to help show notability. Just make sure that if you add anything to this article, that you also keep a copy of it in the draft article just in case so that you have your work there. • The notability tag and discussion are pretty old. I thing there are grounds for keeping the article. While the subject is of low absolute importance, his contributions are a) recognized in a history book about Male Singing in education b) Cited elsewhere as an Australian composer of note. I tried to improve the article a little to help it pass the bar. Can work on it a little more if need be, and try and find more cites.

Deletion request

[edit]

I have proposed that this article should be deleted, due to a lack of notoriety, and lack of any links to this article.

I also feel like this article was made as a memorial, which should be on Find a grave instead of Wikipedia Joe Barbarotalk 18:42, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever faults this may have it is certainly not a memorial. The article was created while the subject was still living. Phil Bridger (talk) 19:47, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Added compositions list

I've started adding compositions list. Rockycape (tcg) 01:35, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
