The last section of this article reads like an advertisment. Its needs to be cleaned up.207.235.146.24 (talk) 17:54, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs more detail & work!

Fixed some apparent miskeying and restored the See Also subheading. Mugaliens 23:11, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An anonymous poster made the comment that "–The photo is not an array, it is a solar panel. An array id is number of multiple solar panels that constitute a solar electric system." I cannot verify the correct usage of the term, but I believe that the clarification request belongs on the talk page and not the main article page. Can anyone confirm whether the photo shows a solar panel or a solar array? Chrylis 23:04, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should really be the PV array page?

[edit]

Seems like 90% of the folks mean photovoltaic module when they search for solar panels. Seems like the solar panels page should really be the current PV page, and at the top mention that solar panels can also refer to X, Y, etc.. Or maybe a disambiguation page? Albrnick 18:52, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • From Wikipedia's photovoltaic module page: "For cost and practicality reasons a number of cells are connected electrically and packaged in a photovoltaic module, while a collection of these modules that are mechanically fastened together, wired, and designed to be a field-installable unit, sometimes with a glass covering and a frame and backing made of metal, plastic or fiberglass, are known as a photovoltaic panel or simply solar panel." 75.85.120.61 (talk) 19:09, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Wakata[reply]

Shouldn't some reference be made to heat collection solar panels? This article seems to focus purely on photo voltaics??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.99.10.162 (talk) 21:55, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Calculator panels

[edit]

I'd like to know more about the development of solar panels for calculators. What is the history? Who developed it? Kingturtle 16:13, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?

[edit]

Should this be merged with Photovoltaics and/or Solar Cell?

Yeah, I think so. 71.240.184.74 19:55, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mercury

[edit]

I am looking for some information of the use of solar panels that contain mercury. They are a great source to use for heating h2o and I wanted to know if they are still available? mowpower

I deleted the "Heat My Home" link, I found it to be a commercial site with not much educational or informative value. Dept of Alchemy 08:03, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a little new to Wikipedia, so I am putting it up here rather than blindly deleting what a recent person added to the page.

Under solar panel brands, someone has added "Solar panels are made from pure silicon. They can cost up to 1,500 a piece."

The problems are:

a) That has nothing to do with solar panel brands b) Not all panels are made from silicon, there are copper-based thin-film panels etc. c) The price doesn't make sense - no unit of currency and custom-build panels can cost far more for a 'piece'. The industry tends to talk in Watt/Peaks (Wp) price, how much you pay per Watt, rather than the price of the overall panel (since with so many different sizes and types of panel it is hard to compare on unit price).

I could add a bit of information on pricing if needed, but price depends on what part of the chain you are looking at, and I am not sure if the audience is interested in manufacturer, wholesale or retail pricing.

Here is a link to some pricing information across the whole PV chain: China 2007 Silicon, Ingot, Wafer, Cell and Panel Pricing

Unsure if I should just delete...

should not Nanosolar be in this page? They are the ones printing (yes, you read right) thin-film solar cells. 200.70.18.2 (talk)horzer —Preceding comment was added at 12:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed most of the article :)

[edit]

I cut this page down into basically a disambiguation page. The material that was on this page is already covered more thoroughly and articulately elsewhere.

Merger discussion

[edit]

A merger discussion has been started regarding the organisation of Photovoltaics, Photovoltaic array, Solar panel, Photovoltaic module, Photovoltaic system and Solar cell. If you would like to contribute to this discussion please click here. GG (talk) 08:22, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GT Solar advert - why such a detailed description here?

[edit]

I added an advert flag to the section discussing GT Solar. This article should be a general article about solar panels. There are many, many solar panel manufacturers; I see no reason why any one single company should have a large section in such a broad-topic article as this. It might be justified if the company was a seminal company in the field, but GT Solar sounds more like a startup with big plans and not much product. In my opinion, this section should either be removed outright, or replaced with a section discussing the solar panel industry in general.

If there is consensus that the information about GT Solar is important, then it should have its own article, or be part of a separate article about "the solar panel industry" or some such. Jace Harker (talk) 07:42, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion and page protection

[edit]

I reverted the page to the version by User:Wtshymanski, and protected it. Here are my reasons:

For a few months, the only changes to this page from its current form were vandalism attempts. Then, in the past couple weeks, a lot of poorly-written, redundant prose was added to the article.

Things that get added to this article are already covered in more detail in the pages it links to. This page should basically be a disambiguation page.

Disambiguation

[edit]

Given that this has been solidly kept as a two-sentence "solar panel can refer to X or Y" article for a while, I've taken it a step further and made it into an actual disambiguation page. Given that there are only two articles, though, we should try to decide which is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and redirect straight to it, with a hatnote pointing to the other.

What do other editors think? --McGeddon (talk) 16:39, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
