I may have been the actual inventor of the doorbell camera!

[edit]

In 2000-2001, I was a Technical Marketing Engineer for Intel's line of webcams. People have forgotten or are too young to know Intel and Logitech had equal market share back the, about 40% each.

Near the end of 2001, Intel decided to close down the Connected Products Division, which included the webcam products. At that time, there was a call for all patentable ideas based on technology from that business unit. I completed a few patent disclosures, including one which included a doorbell, camera, and the idea to display the video on the family television when the doorbell was rung. This was barely the Blackberry era — no smartphones.

Intel declined to file for a patent. I was told they would "publish for defense", whatever that means. The idea just died. Rickspies (talk) 22:51, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
