Anabranch/distributary vs channel in river delta

I don't see the difference, myself.....I noted there's a merge proposal for distributary to River bifurcation. Reason I'm here is the many sloughs of the Fraser River, which range from side channels to backwaters, and not sure where to put these images of a typical Fraser slough (there are many others):

Probably on the Delta page I guess; the Fraser Delta is a lowland area which begins 80 miles upstream from the mouth, its final channels, the South Arm and North Arm, are definitely distributaries, but its many sloughs don't seem to fit that description, though I have seen people put "anabranch" on various sidewaters that are mentioned in articles, not sure if there are any specific ones e.g. Nicomen Slough comes to mind.Skookum1 (talk) 05:45, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
