merging this article with the south luzon expressway article

[edit]

i think this article should be merged with the article of south luzon expressway, as the skyway is a part of the SLExAkosikupal 03:49, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Philippines

[edit]

Shouldn't the opening paragraph make it clear that this is about Manila in the Philippines? Hmm? Yes, it's pretty logical that this is about the Philippines, but believe it or not, there is more than 1 Manila in the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Atikokan (talkcontribs) 02:28, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comments not about the page removed

[edit]

Just FYI, I have removed three comments not about the page, as per Wikipedia guidelines. This talk page is for discussions regarding ways to improve the page. It is not a venue for expressing your opinions about the topic, or (I'm sorry to have to inform you), applying for jobs at the company that runs the Skyway. - Alternativity (talk) 23:15, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I removed another unrelated comment that you may have missed.-TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 08:48, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page moved

[edit]

I moved "Metro Manila Skyway" to "Skyway (Metro Manila)", with Metro Manila as a parenthesized disambiguator. Reasons for the move is to be consistent with the name used on the signage, but the name may have been patterned after roads also named with "Skyway" in the United States, like the Chicago Skyway or Pulaski Skyway. The mentioned roads in the United States are named and signed as such, but for the one in Metro Manila, it may be just a theoretical name used in the plan for an elevated expressway above the South Luzon Expressway from Makati to Bicutan, that needs to be verified.-TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 08:45, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stage 4

[edit]

Can anyone please confirm that Stage 4 and the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SMME) are one and the same? I see they both follow the same general alignment, beginning from FTI through C-6 and ending at the Batasan complex. Thanks. --Miles2north (talk) 19:35, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vague sources

[edit]

There are some sources, if you check the ref list, that are directed to Facebook and Twitter. I think those are unreliable and could be improved or replaced with a better one. Bekkadn (talk) 09:30, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree. While a lot of Filipinos refer to the expressway simply as the "Skyway", and even referring to any elevated expressway as a "skyway", the official name is the Metro Manila Skyway, and people use it just as often as simply the Skyway.
Also, was the article always named Skyway (Metro Manila)? I could have sworn it was called Metro Manila Skyway or something else in the past. Ganmatthew (talkcontribs) 07:11, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Metro Manila SkywaySkyway (Metro Manila) – Simply put, this is hardly known as the MMS, and the recent move is not even backed by consensus (just one person supported change, but that didn't reflect any consensus). Comment: how about "Manila Skyway"? Manila won't be used to refer to the city itself but as a synecdoche of the whole NCR region. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 14:33, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. It's like the Dallas Cowboys that don't play in Dallas. We'd only call things referring to Metro Manila as "Manila" if someone successfully moves Manila to "Manila (city)" and Metro Manila to "Manila". That's why the LRT/MRT lines have been renamed into their current names (using "Metro Manila" as the disambiguator) from the original naming of (get ready for this) "Manila LRT Yellow Line".
And yeah, the Skyway also passes through Manila now so it's not exactly wrong by now... Howard the Duck (talk) 02:22, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Howard the Duck: by your rationale it is like that New Manila International Airport should have not been named as such, but rather something like "Bulacan International Airport". The core city of a metropolitan area is a representative of that metropolitan area, just like Tokyo which more frequently denotes Greater Tokyo Area in many contexts despite the existence of Yokohama et cetera. Another thing, the skyway really serves Manila, just like NMIA that despite being located in Bulacan is expected to serve (Metro) Manila peeps. Anyway it is just my suggestion. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 05:18, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose the new airport in Bulacan has no WP:NC yet aside from "New Manila International Airport" (and does sound like serving a specific neighborhood of QC!), so for me the "New Manila International Airport" works well for now. If a WP:NC develops for that structure in the future, then we can discuss that, in the future. Howard the Duck (talk) 09:12, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Even if people don't call it as the "Metro Manila Skyway", it doesn't mean that we can just change the title to something as mundane and generic as "Skyway". People refer to the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway as NLEX and SLEX, but that doesn't mean the article titles should be changed to "NLEX" and "SLEX". It's also different from the way that the EDSA article was renamed from "Epifanio de Los Santos Avenue" because at least EDSA doesn't come across as a generic name. Lastly, as I mentioned before, retaining the name as the "Metro Manila Skyway" would also be less confusing to the way that Filipinos like to refer to other elevated expressways such as the NLEX Harbor Link or NLEX-SLEX Connector Road as "skyways". Ganmatthew (talkcontribs) 14:51, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Return to the prior title. The current name isn't the common name, and the above move doesn't look like it was well-reasoned.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:02, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
