Non-copyvio

[edit]

I've started working on a non-copyvio version of the page. It's at the Temp page mentioned in the big copyvio banner. It's nowhere near ready to transfer at this stage. Please do not move anything yet, admins. If it helps the situation any, I've spoken with the PR guy at SkIO and he has no problems with the current text being where it is. I'm not an expert on the Institute, but I'm willing to help where I can on any formating issues.

Glad to have you on board. Please don't make too many major changes to the draft at this stage, as it helps me keep track of where I am to see things where I last left them. Formatting is all "stand-in" status right now anyway, and content is likely to shift around rather dramatically as I figure out where to put in new research.
I'm barraging the PR guy with questions at the moment and will resume writing when he gets back to me. I'm hoping to put in some history about SkIO itself (it's been around for 40 years, surely some stuff worth mentioning happened...), and also a paragraph-blurb for research activities of each of the faculty, plus for notable past faculty.
Do you have a more accurate picture of the Georgia map? That red dot is nowhere near Skidaway Island, which is on the coast and a little to the south, not up the Savannah River. It looks like the map is more for Savannah. Nerwen 20:19, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Map updated. Should show a better representation of Skidaway Island vice Savannah.

Great article! Removed the (much less informative) copyvio version and moved the temp page in. --Alvestrand 21:14, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Errr... thanks, but I wasn't actually done yet, in case you didn't notice that it's chock full of draft notes and sentences that stop in the middle. It's not ready for primetime and I'd rather that the SkIO people who have been helping me not see it in its present state. Please put the placeholder back.
Sorry for being slow, but getting hold of people to pester with questions takes a while, especially in the summer when everyone keeps going on out-of-town trips, plus the next step involves looking up offline things in a library. Also I have a bunch of other hobby committments I have to rotate through. Nerwen 01:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've clipped it off to just the intro for now. Work will continue over at my sandbox. Nerwen 01:33, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the Institute PR person you may wish to cite information from the following sources:

I will add more as I find them

The Encyclopedia one is really good, thank you. The other two you can delete, as it's just a repeat of the brochure-like material that's already everywhere else. Nerwen 01:33, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article "To Do" List

[edit]

Gray's Reef

[edit]

I got the distance to Gray's Reef off of the page for it, where it says 17.5 nautical miles. Whoever knows how to put in the proper conversion for that, please do. Nerwen (talk) 21:05, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done converted to nautical miles and square nautical miles. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 19:40, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

insufficient inline citations?

[edit]

So... when I wrote the history section of this article in 2007, about 90% of it was from three hardcopy-only books in the SkIO library. There really wasn't much point to citing each individual sentence, since the whole article is a composite narrative from all of them. I suppose someone who still lives near the SkIO library and has a lot of time on their hands, can take a crack at it. Nerwen (talk) 16:30, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
