Cast and crew

[edit]

@Divya Thaakur: @Dharmadhyaksha: I've pinged you since you two have edited the article quite a bit and, therefore, might have some specific knowledge of the cast and crew. Perhaps you are aware of MOS:TVCAST? Basically, cast lists in articles are not generally divided up between "current" and former" members. Rather, each individual is generally listed in the order they first appeared. This is done because a Wikipedia article is supposed to cover a TV program throughout it's entire history, and not simply focus on its current version. It's OK to break up the cast into "Main" and "Recurring" or "Main" and "Minor", but not according to "who's still on the show" and "who's no longer on the show". I have no idea about the order these actors appeared on the show or who is a major or minor character, but I don't think the current format is really acceptable with MOS:TV, which is generally considered the acceptable style for such articles. So, it probably needs to be tweaked a bit.

One more thing is that not every minor character needs to be mentioned. For sure, if someone is notable enough to have their own stand-alone Wikipedia article, then they should be included. Borderline candidates, however, probably need to be sourced per WP:CSC so that the list doesn't turn into an ever expanding directory of names. The same also applies to the crew as well. Some selection criteria should be established so that it's clear who should and who should not be included. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:41, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have no objections with either of the two points you mentioned. Be WP:BOLD and do as you wish. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 02:20, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the respose. I have not seen any episodes of this program, so I'm not sure who is a main character and who is recurring, or what order they've appeared on the show. Do you have any idea where such information, preferably in English, can be found? As for the list inclusion criteria, the simplest one would be to require each individual to have a stand-alone Wikipedia article, but that would pretty much eliminate everyone currently mentioned. Perhaps only names in the opening/closing credits should be included. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:36, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry! I haven't seen the show either. But just to note that the new daily soaps don't really show actor credits in opening and there certainly are no closing credits at all. Indian TV shows recap of what happened, then short glimpse of what will happen in today's episode in the next 20 mins and then starts with the episode. It again shows what will happen in the next remaining 15mins before going into a commercial break and keeps repeating it again and again and finally never shows it. The same thing is shown in advertisements again and again. So, in short, there is little encyclopedic content to take from the original shows. You may simply rely on blue-link actors and mentions of actors with their roles in WP:RS publications. Rest all should be considered trivial and not mentioned. If they at all were worthy of mentioning, sec & tertiary sources will do that before our encyclopedia should do it. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:27, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the additional clarification. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:31, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There was 2 leaps of 8 year in the tv show. At staring of show role of young Rama in played by Yash Mistry. In 1st leap role of teenage Rama is placed by Vedant Sawant. In 2nd leap role of adult Rama is played by Ashish Sharma So there is separate column for current cast and former cast. The cast mentioned in former cast will not play their role again. it is based on Ramayana (story about God Rama and Goddess Sita). Divya Thaakur (talk) 08:18, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information Divya Thaakur. I'm not sure what you mean by "2 leaps". Does that mean "two seasons" or "two separate versions"? If it means "two seasons", then there definitely should not be a "former cast" section per MOS:TVCAST. All the notable cast members (those who satisfy the criteria for inclusion which is established) should be listed in the same section "Cast" in the order they first appeared in the show credits regardless of whether they will play their role again. If, however, you are talking about two different versions of the same show, then perhaps the previous version should be given it's own section altogether. The casts from both versions should not be combined into a single section. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:16, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Leap means there is time period gap in the story..
1st leap shows the story about young Sita.
1st leap(Childhood story of Sita) = story After 8 year from the starting period of show(from the scene of Sita's birth)
2nd leap is story about adult Rama and adult Sita.
2nd leap(Story of Adult Rama and Sita)= After 8 years from the 1st leap ( from Childhood story of Sita).
Divya Thaakur (talk) 03:56, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the further clarification Divya Thaakur. Since the "leaps" are just part of the storyline, the cast list should not be divided up into current and former per MOS:TVCAST. There should just be one list with each person listed in the order they first appeared in the openning or closing credits, or in the first cast list you can find in a reliable source. It's makes no difference whether they are no longer appearing in the show because the article is supposed to be about the show from start to finish and not only its latest or current version. I'm assuming you watch the show so I'm happy to leave the order the names are listed in up to you, but once again it should be in accordance with MOS:TV -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:15, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I will merge the current cast and former cast. I love 2 watch this show.u can also watch if you know hindi or Bengali or Telugu or Tamil.
Divya Thaakur (talk) 06:25, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing that Divya Thaakur. It might be helpful to add a hidden note to that particular section, just so other editors know about MOS:TVCAST and the order you've chosen. It's not necessary to do so, but sometimes it can be helpful. The show seems sort of interesting, but I don't understand any of those languages. In fact, I'm sometimes told that I barely understand English. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:51, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Divya Thaakur: The cast list has gotten quite large and seems to get larger each day. I understand that this is a big production involving many actors, but not all of them need to be listed per WP:NOTEVERYTHING. The main cast members are really the only ones who need to be listed. The basic criteria for inclusion should be that the actor has their own Wikipedia article. Next, those actors who may not have a Wikipedia article, but have received coverage in independent reliable sources should be considered for inclusion. Anyone else should probably be left out. I count 56 people currently listed as cast members, but probably more than half of them should be removed. MOS:TVCAST says the following: "Remember to follow the notability guidelines when creating a cast list: not every fictional character ever created deserves to be listed and even fewer will deserve an individual article". Although I understand your desire to be thorough, I really think the list needs to be trimmed down to comply with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:11, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okk i will try to sort this cast list. Divya Thaakur (talk) 03:34, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I can't sort this because every character has its importance. Every character has individual article on Wikipedia and its an religious epic which is very important to indian people and Sri Lankan people. Their emotions are attached to every character. So i can't sort it.I can only categorise it as people from Ayodhya, people from Mithila, people from Lanka and other. Divya Thaakur (talk) 04:25, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Divya Thaakur: Thank for adding sources for Hemant Choudhary, Sampada Vaze, etc. However, The Times of India source does not mention Pratham Kunwar, Yukthi Kapoor, Prithvi Hatte, Tanvi Madhyan, Anjali Rana, Romanch Meht, or Piyali Munsi; therefore, I have added {{failed verification}} templates to those entries. Sources are supposed to directly the support the article content they are being cited for per WP:RSCONTEXT. Just adding unrelated sources randomly to article content in attempt to try and keep it in an article is not really an appropriate thing to do. This might be considered to be citation spam by some editors and is something which should be avoided whenever possible. As I stated above, individual entries in embedded lists like cast/crew lists are required to satisfy WP:CSC. The basic crtieria is that the actor (not the role they are playing) have their own Wikipedia article or that a reliable source be provided which verifies they are playing that particular role. Those that don't meet either criterion should be removed since a Wikipedia article is not intended to include every bit of information about its subject per WP:NOTEVERYTHING. Finally, I understand that audiences of TV shows sometimes develop as emotional attachment to actors in a show or the show itself, but Wikipedia articles are not intended to be fan pages. The article is not written only for Indian people and Sri Lankan people; it's written for anyone in the world, including those for whom it might not have such a personal/religous meaning. This means it needs to be written in an encyclopedic tone in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines and also in accordance with MOS:TV. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:05, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Sampada Vaze

[edit]

@Divya Thaakur: File:Sampada Vaze.jpg is a freely licensed photo available on Wikimedia:Commons which has been verified by OTRS so you can use it (i.e., display it) in the article without worrying about a copyright violation. There are a number of ways to add a file to an article explained at WP:IUP.

You do not really have to wikilink to the file and probably shouldn't since it gives the impression that a Wikipedia article for Vaze exists. You can add a red link for Vaze if you think she's notable enough for her own stand-alone article or stub. Red links are one way of letting other editors know that the subject might be a candidate for a possible future Wikipedia article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:40, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Very noble of you but specific instructions were left on this blocked user's talk page as to how to proceed as they are trying to get a block lifted. Indirectly editing an article in this manner is not that method nor indeed permitted. --Elektrik Fanne 12:35, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Plot section trimmed

[edit]

In this edit I trimmed content added between 10-15 September. The plot section is already too long. Adding paragraph upon paragraph doesn't make it any shorter. The entire section should not exceed 500 words. We are not trying to replace the experience of watching the series. If episode details are so important, then creating a List of episodes and providing 100-200 word episode summaries would be appropriate per WP:TVPLOT. But even then, the episode details have a limit. This isn't arbitrary, as in-depth summaries can constitute "derivative works", which presents copyright problems. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:12, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyphoidbomb: I have never seen this show so I cannot comment of any specific plot points, but it does seem that the is an excessive amount of detail in the article which is not really needed. The plot stuff you removed has already been re-added twice, so I'm sure it will be added again. The article has had some problems with sockpuppets in the past so maybe it's just one of those articles which will continue to attract this kind of attention. Anyway, I left a user warning on the IP's talk and asked them to participate in this discussion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:26, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
