"Note: it has been suggested that the term geological term "sinter" should be restricted to siliceous spring deposits and dropped for calcareous deposits entirely."

Archaeologists use "sinter" to refer to Calcium Carbonate deposits, as appear on things like the channels of Roman aqueducts. cf. A. Trevor Hodge, Roman Aqueducts & Water Supply. k. da-ma-te (talk) 19:00, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
