His "retirement"
[edit]It seems to me this is really a foreshadowed resignation, not a retirement in any technical sense. His term is not due to end till 2028. Normally he'd be up for re-election some time in 2027 or 2028, whenever the Senate election is held. But if he's going early, in 2025, that means he's resigning. He'll have to submit a resignation to the President of the Senate, which will become effective immediately it's received. If he plans to resign on the date of the general election, that's his choice, but to say he's "retiring at the 2025 general election" looks like his term is coming to an end on 30 June 2025 end he's choosing not to go for another term until 2031, and all he has to do is choose not to stand for election - which is simply not the case. We should make this clear. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 23:41, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
